Get DSLExtreme!!
I was so excited about geting DSL, I sent my information even before I had a working home phone. Anyway, I contacted DSLExtreme on Feb 19, 2001 and I got a call within 48 hours (as promised). DSLExtreme said that it might take 2 to 4 weeks, but someone will call me with a turn-on date. I got a call from Maggie on March 2, 2001. My turn-on date was set to be March 14, 2001. Following Monday, I got dls modem and a NIC card in the mail. Couple days ago, I tested the line and it didn't work. Tonight I tested the line again.
It works.... Link light wasn't blinking anymore... To my surprise, dsl is set up already. Six days before my turn-on date.
I had absolutely no problem with installing, it was easy. They answered all my questions (I didn't have much question).
I am not sure about the speed though. I know it's much much faster than dial-up, but I had very high expectation. DSLextreme had a speed test, which resulted 1184k down. I try the same test through DSL Report. Those tests came out to be 750k down and 680k down. I also try to download netscape comunicator from netscape server, it was downloading at 64K bytes/sec = 512k down.
By the way, I am about 3000 cable feet away from CO. So I was hoping for full 1500k down. Maybe it's congested time right now. it's 11:30pm. I'll try in the morning again.
I heard so many horror stories about geting DSL, but am I lucky to have found DSLExtreme?
I shall write again soon.

It took a little bit to get me up and running but every snag along the way was with PacBell. PacBell has some major problems but DSLEXTREME was right on top of things. I think the longest that I was ever on hold when calling tech support was maybe around 30 seconds and I think that there was one time that they didn't answer the phone until the third ring. They have been right there when you need them. (PacBell should take a few lessons from these guys on how to run a business)
Since I've been up and running....it's been smooth. I've been getting 1274 down and 109 up. I'm not complaining. I also like the fact that I have a static IP address. At $39.95 a month, too. (I think it's $49 a month now...but I got in when they were running a special). I would highly recommend DSLEXTREME to anyone.
If you have had any bad experiences with other ISPs....DSLEXTREME is a breath of fresh air. I'm looking forward to a good long relationship with this company. They do it right.

I've had this sevice for about 3 weeks now and so far I like what I have. Tech support was fantastic and really stay with you until all problems have been resolved. The connection speed is not as fast as I thought it would be but could just be my registry settings. Overall, these guys are fantastic and I fully recommend DSLExtreme if you want to invest in a good DSL service with great support from their representatives--DSLExtreme is the one for you. No BS.

Easy to order. We ordered the 1500-128 basic corporate package in Pacific Bell. My entire office of 20+ compuers is up and running for $99.95 per month including website hosting and e-mail, free modem and free router. The fact that they have a speed test on their support page tells me that they are confident of their fast speeds. Not slow during peak hours. The whole thing was easy plug and play.
I recommend this company. They are good.

when i first signed up with DSLExtreme in feb of 2000 and was immediately impressed with the ease of obtaining information from the tech support staff. i had called because on the turn on day i had everything turned on but still had no service. with me on the line the tech staff called gte and we all discussed solutions to the problem. turns out the problem was i needed to use the crossover cable instead of a network cable that i was using. i have nothing but good things to say about this company and highly reccomend them

I can't say enough good things about these people and their personal approach to business! I have dealt with my share of loser ISPs! This company takes away all of my worry. I know that I can depend on them to always remedy any negative situation that I might experience!! They could teach Flashcom a thing or two!

Before I signed up for DSL with DSL Extreme, I signed up for their dial-up to see how good/bad they are. Their service seemed fine, so I decided to go with them. I talked with a sales rep over the phone and was told that I need to mail the order form. I filled out the form I downloaded from their site and mailed it on Dec. 27. Two days later, rep called to notify me of the installation date (PacBell) Jan. 17.
Jan. 15, two days before the installation, I was yet to receive a DSL modem from them. I called them. They told me that's because they haven't received the fee for the first month. Make sense. I mailed a check on the next day.
On Jan. 25, I received the modem -- UPS missed me a few times. At first I wasn't able to get the line connected. Later I found out I was plugging DSL cable into a wrong jack (a DSL jack that was previously installed for Earthlink/PacBell -- was dead for unknown reason...). Later in that day, my connection was up and running.
I signed up for Basic DSL (384-1500K/128K) and am getting solid 1000k+ download, althogh upload is often less than 128k. I've had a few minor technical problems(not DSL related) with this ISP, but everything has been taken care of by the tech support in a prompt manner. They do give me follow-up calls when it's necessary. I used to be an Earthlink/PacBell customer and have had numerous dreadful experiences with them -- 6months of downtime (they continued charging me!), unstable, eavesdropped mail/news server, useless customer service that never call back, etc. I was hesitant to have PacBell as TELCO because of my previous experience, but apparently they worked out fine this time.
So far I am satisfied with the service at DSL Extreme. I'm glad I'm with a local ISP. It seems their coverage area is small enough for them to keep good eyes on. I hope they'll stay same way.

Based on higher score at this web site, I was highly encoraged to sign up at DSL Extreme. I asked for pre-qualification (not "order") at their web, and they returned to me two business days later with their Service Agreement and an order form. (BTW, today 2/01/2001, they revised the agreement and withdraw "Free" Modem offer.)
When I reviewed them, I got surprised at a couple of points and sent e-mail inquries. So far, they did not respond to me for the past 48 hours. In addition, I gave a call to their 800#, but only little explanation was given, and my concern has not been resolved.
1. Disclose of SSN, Copy of Driver's license
They demanded to write SS# on the order form, and to send them a photocopy of Driver's license. Payment by credit cards are quite popular, and I wonder why consumer have to disclose these important information to take $40 or $80 service.
~ ~ ~ Update on 2/02/2001 ~~~ They returned to me via e-mail, and said no SS# is necessary for my order. See my new note below.
2. "Free" Modem
Until yesterday they had said "Free DSL Modem" with 12 month contract. That's fine. But their Service Agreement (Para. 8) requested to return "all" hardware (unless we buy) upon termination of the contract or expiration of the service period. It meant we have to return to this company a DSL modem, in-line filters, cables, etc. in years. Be careful for wording "Free". In this case, it meant free "rental". I checked "Free Modem" on Verison advertisement, and they said they "give".
~ ~ ~ Update on 2/02/2001 ~~~ They did not answer for the question, and told me the offer just ended (The offer had been actually valid for 24 hours for me),
At first I had gotten very good impression, then I unfortunately was disappointed with this company.

Ordered my service at the end of November, promptly received an e-mail w/ excellent step by step instructions and a live date of December 19th. I received my DSL modem after about 1 week and was up and running on the 19th. Total time from call to live was about 3 weeks, which was far better than I expected. On my live date I had a little trouble configuring Outlook Express for the multiple e-mail accounts that I signed up for so I called tech support and got a representative immediately. Erwin was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and had me up and going in about 15 minutes. I love the fact that my incoming e-mail goes to a hotmail account first so that I can check them from work and then when I check them at home they come into Outlook as soon as I launch it. I also like the fact that I can use Internet Explorer and Outlook, there was no special browser or software to download. I have had zero problems and I love the service.
