which have not received much attention from ATT, fives years ago they started the dsl lines here and we subscribed, and renewed under their new contracts at $ 14.95 a month, when that contract expired then ATT bumped our rate to $ 30.95 a month, this has been a rock solid connection for us with no troubles, but based on distance we can not get the speed quoted, since has been pretty much hassle free for us up to this time we have not considered changing but price may become a factor for us in the future. I went to ATT and signed up for the Uverse service. The television is crystal clear and up about 98% of the time. I only lost the internet once and that was due to some idiot cutting the feed line. I have fiber to the neighborhood and copper throughout. I get about 12mb down and 1.5 mb up. The tech and customer support is terrible. You are on-hold forever and when you get to someone (finally)..... they only have amateur answers! Other than that.... I am very pleased with the service. Try them....you'll like them. | »next review in page (previous review) i had this service once for 1.5 years and switched to cable due to there lack of reliability, and support. threw out the whole time i had service with them on this period my service was allways having issues i dared giving then sbc another chance and got dsl again, the service worked excellent for the first 5 monhs, and well the next 2 months where ever the worst, service, support, i broke my contract when a outsourced dsl tech insulted me and went as far as to cuss me out. Pre Sales information: Was ok up untill they started to push unwanted product onto you. Install Co-ordination: excellent, install date was active and on before due date. Connection reliability: was a toss up, and something then sbc, could not or would not resolve. Tech Support: horrid horrid horrid outsourced tech support THE WORST i have yet to experiance. i had a DSL tech cuss me out because he was right and i was not. on other occasions the tech support are clueless, hard to understand, rude, unwilling to work with the customer,,did i mention rude??? Services: again when it worked it was great, but help you if you have problems on your line. Value for money: i cant see haveing cheap DSL and connection reliability issues toppled with horrid support = any value of money,,,i want a service that works when i need it to work, and a support staff the can resolve problems, when it is not, to not insult a customer and further cussing them out. no amount of cheap is worth this so no value here. again to anyone who is considering getting DSL, if you have or know you have pots problems GET ANY OF those problems RESOLVED before getting DSL update 9-22-08 nothing new to add as i have vowed never to get service from this company even if given for free!!!! 7-2-09 funny i get snail mail at least once a week to get "upto" $300 cash back to "switch" HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yea right.......... I ordered the 3000/512 package on March 7th and was up and running about a week later. The modem they sent was the Speedstream 5100b. Installation was a breeze. The only problem I ran into was my router and modem wouldn't play nice together. A couple searches in the SBC forum and I was able to sort out the problem. So far, I have no complaints. Update 6/27/09: Four years later and I'm still happy with the service. Since I was out of contract for a while I called in and got in on a promo where I'm only paying $15/month for the 3000/512 package. It's good for 6 months, so when the 6 months is up I'll call in and try and catch another deal. Regardless of a deal on pricing or not, I won't be switching to another service anytime soon. Decent speed but I am in so much hate of this company right now that I could care less. Bottom line - Useless Updated - Still useless. I hate lack of meaningful competition. Followup comments:

| »next review in page (previous review) With AT&T I'm getting around 5mbps down 500kbps up. Set up was not exactly easy. AT&T makes you jump through a few hoops. I had to call customer support for help. Just wish competition was better around here. ISP choices is very, very limited. AT&T is a monopoly..........again. Followup comments:

The quality of service depends on where you live. My review is more negative than most, because I have not lived in newer developments or downtown areas. The good: I am glad to have DSL available. The DSL service comes bundled with Yahoo e-mail services. It also comes bundled with a software security package (currently McAfee). The rest describes the negatives: The biggest problem is that they have not installed concentrators to provide good coverage. I have had AT&T DSL service in three California cities, all three had marginal DSL service. They are upgrading downtown areas of larger cities and new developments with fiber to the curb. Older neighborhoods are still wired with Cat 2 or Cat 3 and there are many splices. Sometimes, the DSL will not work until a technician changes the wire within the bundle to reduce the number of splices. Weather can affect speed or cause frequent disconnections. Most of the technicians are very good at installation using the default settings and can work with the user interface to solve many problems. But they do not seem to understand how the router works or how to work with a computer tuned for security. Download speed is limited to 768 kb/s on basic plan. In some neighborhoods, you can upgrade to 1536 kb/s (the lines in my neighborhood barely support 768). Residential upload speed is limited and throttled (Limit: 384 kb/s; sometimes throttled to below 128 kb/s). They only offer discounted contracts (about $30/month total) to new users. No upgrades from my current service are available in my neighborhood. Third party plans are slightly cheaper, but the service is not better. I say that AT&T is not trustworthy, because they upload router patches without notification. This broke my older model 2-Wire 1701HG) router and required a new router ($90 for a 2701HG). The changes broke my local network setup once and currently, some functions on the router user interface do not work. I do like the router's web interface, but AT&T has removed many features (such as DHCP coordination with software). The router includes a firewall and wireless service (defaulting to low security). I don't use the bundled software and services much. The security software supplied is not high quality. I use software from other companies (pctools, comodo, spybot, and/or sunbelt) that is free for personal use. I mostly use gmail, because AT&T filters e-mail (even though I have turned off the filter at Yahoo). I have no TV, so cable internet service is expensive (over $50/month). Time-Warner Digital service (telephone, basic cable TV, and normal internet) is about $110/month. The upload speed is throttled to match AT&T). Followup comments:
