This past Saturday VoIP was installed by Atlantic Broadband along with an upgrade to Digital Cable for the television. Internet is still 3/320. All services are consistently of high quality. The modem for VoIP and internet is Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard. Great diagnostics page. :::.. Had a couple of outages but they were weather related. Customer service is fast, patient and usually knowledgeable. I'm still a satisfied user of Atlantic Broadband. 30 August 2007 This service, internet~digital cable~VoIP, is just plain stable. It's a set and forget item. Absolutely nothing negative to report. 19 February 2008 Again: "This service, internet~digital cable~VoIP, is just plain stable. It's a set and forget item. Early in the morning the cable, internet and VoIP went down. The outage covered Central PA and parts of Maryland. The cable and VoIP came back on very fast but no internet connection could be made. I tried every trick in the book trying to reestablish it to no avail. Finally called a tech friend and explained the problem. Simple solution was a pin hole reset button on the back of the Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard. Fixed. I don't know if ABB should have/could have sent a reset signal to the network or not. Would have saved me and probably a multitude of others a major source of frustration. O'well, at least I have learned another avenue of solving a problem from this experience. Good can come out of bad. 7 October 2009 Nothing new to report. We simply have a very stable system here which I am very satisfied with. When I do have an issue of any kind Customer Service is swift in resolving it. Kudos to Atlantic Broadband in Central PA. Followup comments:

| »next review in page (previous review) Sometimes the modem will disconnect randomly, it happens about once every two weeks, I guess it is some kind of resync. They have been incrementing their pricing slowly but steadily without any notice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------- Well, now going with HSI.... ABB's supplied modem is a Motorola SBV5222 which has USB, Ethernet and Phone connections (VOIP service). The service often goes below the expected service (as low as 6 Mbps, but it could go lower like 4 Mbps), however, is not that much of a problem. Service is part of a promotion that ABB has going right now, from call to install, it took them about 3 days. I had some issues with the modem and the router we were using since for some reason it was unable to share the internet connection, and when it shared it, it was extremely slow (up to 1.5 Mbps), I mentioned this to the ABB tech but they couldn't help, I wasn't expecting the help anyways since their support limits to the PC connection itself. Aside that, service has been very good. Update 09/21/08: well my weird issue with the router was solved thanks to the help of someone in the BBR forums (hint: MAC cloning). Speed has improved substantially since then, usually keeping over 6.4 to 7.3 Mbps. Uploads are usually 480 - 492 Kbps. Now I'm able to get full internet and be protected with the router (even though the SBV5222 works as a modem, it seems to me that it currently works on IP Pass through mode since my router is able to detect my external IP directly and the IP is not a private address kind (192.168.x.x) as it used to happen when it was connected directly to the PC). Update 10/25/08: I have found some random latency variations. By default, the latency is about 50-60 mS. Some nights after 10 pm EST, it go up about 160+ mS with the drop on speed about 3-4 Mbps. I haven't called ABB about it but if it gets worse they will hear from me. Update 11/25/08: The speed problem hit me again... my speed dropped to 350 kbps with a latency of over 700 mS. Fortunately it happened after 8 pm EST and it was over by the next day, I still think they must be doing some kind of upgrade to the network. Unfortunately, I still do not see any benefit or receive any notification at all before this happens. About The P2P issue: so far I have not experienced this drop. The speed drop happens but so far, it happens even if I'm not using any kind of P2P application (plain HTTP traffic). I still think it is some kind of maintenance/upgrade that ABB doesn't bother to tell their customers. Uh... well several P2P forums confirm the P2P throttling so then yes, it may be happening. Their customer service is great! Every time I call, my wait is very short, and the person I speak with is very knowledgeable. Whenever there's an outage and I call to inform them, they always have a recorded message stating that they're aware of the issue and have techs onsite attempting to resolve it. They're always on top of things. As for initial setup, I called a week before I moved in and they were there the day I moved in to get me activated. The movers were still moving boxes as the tech was leaving! As for price, they're very competitive when compared to the likes of Comcast who are usually overpriced. For internet alone, I pay $48.95 for 12 Mbps/768Kbps down and up. I have a Motorola modem; the first unit they gave me died, so they replaced it with a new one same day, though I did have to go to their offices to swap it out myself. That's standard practice in this business, though, as I had to do the same with Time Warner when I lived in NYC. The only bad experiences I've had with Atlantic BB was with their DVR boxes dying on me a few times for the cable service. It's clear that they recycle old units, again, as do most other providers. The modem died once in my three years with them. As for good experiences, the fact that I only have to call them about once a year is a testament to their service and reliability for internet service. Smart, friendly techs, low prices, no contract and high reliability. What else could you ask for? Followup comments:

From the time I spoke with someone until I was up and running was just a few hours; the time it took to place the order, pick up the modem; an excellent Motorola SURFboard, get some cable, and switch the connection from my DSL to cable. This doesn't make up for the previous poor customer service. But it was worthy of note. Installation was very easy. I had no problems at all doing it myself. The connection worked on the first try. My connection speeds for the same promised numbers (8mbps/768kbps) as my DSL were noticeably faster. In otherwords, I could see pages rendering much faster. Uploads speeds were also much faster. I'll update my review again in a week when I have something more substantial to comment on with regard to the actual connection reliability. Again, so far customer service goes they may as well not have any. It was awful. I practically had to beg them to let me become a customer. If I had another option I would have taken it. However I'm in a condo association with bulk cable so my options are DSL or ABB cable. Followup comments:

| »next review in page (previous review) So far what i see is good. I am paying for 12Mbit i get around 8-9Mbits but when i spoke with tech support they said that anyway the service is not official out yet , so its have to be better after few days and ill get my full speed. I have time , ill let you know guys after 10 days does they keep their promise. Best regards. P.S. Ok thats like a few months later. I think the service is great , no cons so far , except one that the upload is slow 786kbs. Anyway the price go down , since atlantic offer me to get a phone line combined with my 12mbit service the price instead 67$ go don to 50$. Thats a red point for Atlantic. offering more services same quality for lower price. Good Job ATLANTIC! P.S. I am extremely disappointing now from Atlantic BB they start to throttling connection when you using any kind of p2p connection , doesn't matter if its torrents or you are watching p2p TV. Got upgraded to there 8Mb plan for free yesterday, speeds are as follows Speed Test #56160024 by dslreports.com Run: 2008-08-23 07:57:04 EST Download: 7511 (Kbps) Upload: 487 (Kbps) In kilobytes per second: 916.9 down 59.4 up UPDATE... December 21, 2007 No issues since the install, constant speeds(570kB down/ 58kB up). Can use Usenet at full speeds by using SSL.. Nothing else to report, everything Just works... Ordered on Fri June 8th, Installed Tues June 12th, installer actually arrived 45 minutes ahead of schedule, but he called before he arrived to make sure i was home. Once he got here, we went over the order witch was just for the Internet service and not for tv since i have Dish Network Tv and love it. After running a brand new Line to the room the computer is in, he hooked up the modem and every thing seemed fine, he left and all was fine for about a hour until the modem lost sync and when it synced back up my speeds were horrible and pings were outrageously high. So i called tech support and they sent the installer back to my house and he found out that my power levels in the modem were way to high and after a few adjustments, everything is perfect..
