    My Other Reviews·AT&T Midwest
My uVerse was installed on time and had no issues afterward. The DVR is great! I can record 4 shows at once and watch them from any TV in the house. I can even pause it and pick it up in the next room. By the way, the $95 price includes 3 mb DSL and a landline phone with all the calling features, voice mail, and unlimited calling anywhere in the USA.

The calling features are amazing. My favorite is "call locator," which is a beefed up version of call forwarding. If someone calls my home, it rings on my cellphone as well. You can program up to five numbers. I can also go online and control my call features, listen to voice mails, and look up incoming and outgoing calls in real time.

The iPhone app completely sucks. It does not work, plain and simple. If you try to program your DVR, it will spit out an error message saying "program already aired" even for future programs. About all it will let me do is let me erase programs already on my DVR. It also does not allow access to billing data or call features.

I was also disappointed that, in 2009, the AT&T provided wireless router/gateway does not include a print server!!

I don't know how good their tech support is because I never had to use it.

uVerse is a good value for the money. I waited a long time for AT&T to work out zoning issues with my city for placement of the equipment boxes, but it was worth it. The bottom line: highly reccomended.

Ordered Internet Only around August 06,2009 , Install date August 20, 2009. Ran poorly for 1.5 days, then down. I had AT&T reconnect my DSL after they couldn't get it back up, waiting for them to resolve problem, AT&T canceled U-verse order, then waited over a week to get them out to dig up underground junction box, finally they dug. Still no resolution to problem. AT&T Determined defective underground wire, instead of replacing wire AT&T found a descent pair (they thought), contacted upper management and got permission to use alternate pair, meet with Premise Supervisor to get gateway installed, tested speed 10Mb down / 1.5Mb up. Was sold 12MB service ???? Shows 12MB on my order on AT&T Uverse site, tech said 10MB. Internet Speeds slower than 6MB DSL. Install to gateway install and working poorly August 20, 2009 - Sept 16,2009 . And still poor service calling again today Sept 21, 2009.

One final Note and this is important to let everyone know. The AT&T Technicians that are working on my install and problem have been the BEST. I can't say enough about how they have all went the extra mile to help me out. They have worked late in terrible conditions to try to get me up and running.I really appreciate all they have done !

These are my actual speeds with a 10MB/1.5MB U-verse Click on the thumbnail below.

"Install easy, service excellent"
"none so far"
"Impressive"

Went through the process of choosing, checked DSL reports and many other reviews.

AT&T uverse offered a very good package price for DSL and phone in our area (Jupiter, FL). They came out installed it, put in a nice wireless/router. With previous provider, I had a separate phone DSL modem, a separate DSL modem and a separate wireless modem.

They use one DSL/router/wireless modem, which they installed with a UPS. Nice. It's much easier to have one device. Before, if for any reason something was down, my wife didn't manage the downtime very well and couldn't always decide what to do. With this device, AT&T manages any internet or phone problem remotely - a great plus when i'm traveling. Things can happen and this means my wife calls them if it does instead of me (I hope). It's rare it would go down (not at all after 3 months). But you never know, particularly in storm country.

I had one deadspot in my house for my wireless computer where I often sit. I just called tech support Sat night at 9:30. Talked quickly to a very good tech guy - clearly US based. He logged in remotely, recommended he reconfigure the channels on the modem. Stayed with me during testing it. Problem solved - and he also pointed out a possible problem intermittently with the refrigerator kicking on (Refrig was in direct line path between me and the modem in the dead spot). Meaning - he really did some good trouble shooting and was knowledgeable.

To me, tech support is really important over time. Things can happen. I was impressed and am taking the time to post this. .

Ordering was painless, even got static IPs at a bargain price($20). 18 mbps service w/5 static IPs. 1500 feet from RT. This U-verse install seamlessly took over a previously very reliable 6mbps DSL connection. Install tech knew nothing about static IPs and couldn't verify them -- had to complete and test the static IPs by myself on the phone with tech support. Warning: 2wire gateway will uncerimoniously block your HTTP access via the static IPs if it thinks you have a virus. This was VERY difficult to troubleshoot and tier 2 support couldn't help. Problem solved by temporarily connecting PC via DHCP instead of static IP, where an explanatory message was then displayed in the web browser. Vonage service works perfectly, no missed incoming calls such as occurs with that other ISP available in my area.

When I moved I went back to at&t's DSL w/ dish for TV and I couldn't be happier.

I think that the Uverse service might be awesome in a few years, but the DVR software is buggy, the connection speed for the the data is no faster. The residential gateway required for the service had would not allow for the firewall to be disabled.

Still refusing to get u-verse again.

I get plenty of calls asking me if I would like uverse again, and I always refuse. After having 6 billing accounts, 2 of those being charged non-returned equipment. Not interested.

Connection speed will be upgraded for many

By that, I mean for those of us 10,000-12,000+ feet away from C/O now. For us, whom are many , we can not get signal to hold the lowest tier max signal.

My understanding is that where the V-rads/nodes are placed, everyone within that 3000 (2300?) feet area will have the higher speed packages available to them.

"Local Cable gives 82 Reg Channels,10 Hd 50 Music is $35 ATT Uverse is a rip Off,"

I think U-Verse is a rip off and was very unhappy with it. It took 1 day to install it and 4 weeks to un install it and I was without my AT&T DSL for 3 weeks while they fiddled around with it. I had to dial up for three weeks to access the internet. I also understand that you need a box by each TV No Good I watch local cable ( 82 channels 10 HD channels, 50 Music channels ) with no box by each TV. I have 5 standard TV and 3 HD TV cost me a fortune for 7 extra boxes and where would I put them. Local Cable for $35 much better deal. I went back to local cable ( city owned) and AT&T DSL. Worst of all I lost AT&T Dial-Up( I repair computers as a sideline at not cost so I need dial up and it would have cost me $20 more to add Dial-up back).

AT&T's TV service isn't good for people who want bare-bones

Cable's a much better choice for people who are happy with basic service. AT&T's TV service caters more to people with high end packages (e.g. having premium/sports channels and networked DVR at every TV). I don't know about your cable company, but ours charges a small fortune ($10+, $20+ for DVR) for every cable box beyond the first. Cable not needing a box for every TV has always been a unique advantage, you run into that issue with satellite also. With their higher end packages AT&T will also offer you some deep discounts to keep it if you threaten to cancel.

I do a lot of computer work on the side too, but I can't figure out what you'd use dialup for these days. If someone doesn't have broadband I take their computer with me and repair it where I have a connection. Just downloading a video or printer driver these days takes hours on dialup! I'm better off tethering a cell phone than going through dialup!

    No cable box?

Yeah, I agree with the last comment. You don't sound like a good fit for uVerse in the first place.

The $35 cable is of course cheaper on a dollar-for-dollar basis, but I'll bet you're not getting half of what uVerse has and certainly not HD, except perhaps whatever HD the local channels broadcast for free anyway.

If you were receiving a signal directly off the cable feed (no box) as you describe, then it was not even a digital signal. Comparing uVerse to analog technology that has been fading for 15 years is not an apples-to-apples deal.

I ordered Uverse in mid August and had to wait 2 and a half weeks for installation. A couple of days before the install a line tech came out and conditioned the lines, gave me a new drop and a new NID. I was scheduled from 11 - 1 and the AT&T dispatch center called me at 12 to proactively tell me that my tech might be a few minutes late. The prem tech also called me directly and gave me an arrival time. Once he arrived I found him to be extremely personable and friendly and had me up and running in 2 hours (my house is already wired with Cat5e).

I noticed immediately on HD that the picture quality wasn't comparable to my DirecTV HD picture. The picture was several shades darker and I noticed that in darker areas of the picture, the entire detail was lost into a black blob. I'm not a picky audiophile or anything but this was noticeable enough that both my partner and I could see it. Also I had been waiting for AT&T to resolve the audio drops with Dolby Digital but I noticed that I had that problem when hooked up via HDMI. All that in mind, I unhooked the TV boxes on Sunday and cancelled the TV portion.

I kept the internet. I have the Max12. It's the same price as Comcast for a similar package but it doesn't have a modem rental fee which is now $5 from Comcast. So I don't have power boost, but I'm saving $5/month. The speed is fast enough for me without power boost. I also like the fact that with AT&T the modem/router is all in one package. This cleaned up my network area a little bit by not having an additional item.

One more note about the TV. The SD picture quality is the best I have ever seen. On cable or satellite. It was crystal clear. Also the user interface was excellent. I think it's one of the best I've ever seen.

Overall I think Uverse has the capability of being an awesome product. Once they work out the HD issues, they'll have a great product on their hands. My gateway syncs at about 60mpbs so I think with pair bonding, there really will be no lack of bandwidth available for the foreseeable future.

    HD quality and line bonding

Thanks for the review. I also think that they have a great product, especially if they can overcome the HD limitations. I am afraid that HD will be their Achilles heel if they don't deal with it. I am hoping that line bonding with help them solve some of this, but long term FTTH will be where they have to go.

I am fairly happy with the HD picture, although DirecTV HD quality is better for sure. I simply like the idea of being able to bundle. I also love the way the menus operate on the TV. I am also using the phone and internet. I have reconciled myself that I would at least keep the Internet and phone for sure, and going back to DirecTV for TV could be an option in the future if need be. However, I am not unhappy with the TV at this point, I love how it operates despite HD limitations. I agree with you on the functionality of the TV and the SD quality.
