How come very few read the article???

All the complaints are saying Obama is now like Bush.

What the article at the top of the page says is the government is going to spy on the government.
They are going to record all communications the goverment makes.
This is no different than any company recording all the communications their employees make.

Bush spied on all Americans with no reason to do so. Bush violated the constitution.

People need to stop twisting the facts and freaking out. Republicans please read the article before you claim he was like your great leader bush.

If you read at the top of the page they are basically going to "spy" on anyone doing business with the government.
They have every right to do that just as any company can record the communications their employees make.

Now if you show me an article where he is going to spy on Americans for no reason like Bush did then I will be worried.
I guess the hundreds of posts in DSLR that establish just that weren't enough to convince you.

A majority of the large companies out there employ this type of monitoring on their networks too. No one seemed too concerned about that.

The reality is that this is vastly different from the data mining that ATT was doing for the government on the public internet.

Congratulations on precisely mimicking the media's carefully editorialized representation of the issue.

A more accurate evaluation would be that Bush was bashed for warrantlessly wiretapping a very limited number individuals, even though the FISA courts would hand out warrants like candy. A meaningless concern since the FISA courts were already cooperating as much as is possible.
However Bush was given a complete pass on empowering the NSA to tap the communications of Every Single American without any consideration of a warrant at all. This is a far more dangerous aspect of the surveillance bills that O'Bama supports to the best of his ability.

That's if you wanted to avoid dishonesty by omission.

I honestly only feel worse seeing news like this.

And for the record the media is definitely in the pockets of the current administration. There ARE HUGE groups of people on alternative media networks like YOUTUBE that strongly appose the Climate Bill that is about ready too move toward a Senate vote. And where is THIS in the NEWS? And if it is in the NEWS how balanced are the arguments?

That Bill HR2454 is Huge, and day after day I check over 10 major news center sites and nothing, zero zip, no insight, no nothing. Maybe a few short clips that is it.

Just M. Jackson all damn day long and what OTHER countries governments are doing. There is a reason why the silence is so real. People are getting paid off, because some real heavy shiat is trying to be pushed forward.

This building announcement just proves it again, and this snooping WILL NOT STOP WITH THE GOVERNMENT, MARK MY WORDS.

It's the Fox News approach to infotainment. The other networks are using the Natalie Halloway template to formulate what information America needs to know.

The closest thing to a balanced news is NPR. They don't just rerun AP feeds and they allow all the interests in a news story to make their case.

ABC news seemed to be trying to de-bias themselves. But then we get this infomercial on O'Bama's health care plan and I don't know anymore.

But for the most part; media is our enemy. The sooner we realize that, the better chance we'll have a responsible press one day.

If anything this seems more legitimate to me... Obviously AT&T doesn't want to get tagged for any abuses that occur--- such as they being privy to their competitors negotiations with the Government for contracts. I'd worry about that......

Do you even LISTEN to NPR?

For years they were as nearly as far left as Pacifica. I stopped listening to them over a decade ago. Something had to have happened; I don't know what. I remember there was a threat to pull their funding around 2005 because of their leftist slant to the news.

About a year and a ½ ago, I tuned in because it was all the radio would get in and I almost dropped dead from shock. NPR was reporting on the primary runups and not overtly favoring the Democrats at every turn. I had to pull over and check my universe; I thought I had wandered through some sort of portal.

As if that weren't enough, NPR actually gathers news. They NYT and the BBC are excellent at finding meaningful stories. But by the time they're done filtering the story through their bias machine it's almost unrecognizable from the truth.

But they do bring the story to the table and I can't really say that about Fox. Fox will resupply the non-left side of an issue, after most of the media carefully edits it out. That's why they are universally hated by the left. However, Fox rarely digs up anything meaningful on their own.

At least with a BBC/NYT story, I can look up the details that were omitted during the crafting of the story; and get the complete issue. With NPR, I don't have to put in the effort. If a leftist has editorialized an issue with their comments, NPR will find someone from the right to offer a countering view. They weight both sides equally. I can't come up with a single broadcast or cable network who'll do that, reliably.

Lastly, NPR is interesting. I heard a 1 hour story on a web outfit that reverse-419's Nigerian scammers. They have the 419 guys running all over West Africa after wired money that isn't there. NPR had a reporter at the Web Site HQ and another in Nigeria following one clown from city to city until he was broke and stranded in some town not friendly to vagrants. What a great story.

I don't know if you listen to Rush without question (he has been brilliant but his beliefs are stale) or you're a leftist who can't bear that NPR went off the farm. Whichever it is, you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

When the libs tried to claim (and obviously still do TRY) that Bush was "secretly spying" on citizens (EVERY citizen no less :uhh: ), the whining was out of control. Now that Obama claims he's only monitoring government entities, it's "oh, ok, sure, it's Obama, we believe him, carry on". Talk about being obviously hypocritical, not to mention looking plain silly in trying to defend this because it's OBAMA doing it.

This is almost too funny for words, watching the defenders try to explain this away.

Re: How come very few read the article???

Outrage for what?
Every company in American can legally spy on their employees why is the government any different.

If you conduct business with the government they have every right to log and records their own communications.

This article is about government spying on government not citizens. Bush spied on citizens for no reason. If you want to bitch about that start a new topic.

I'm a conservative, I just have grown to hate the anti-conservative republican party over the years.

No conservative would support the republican party or their anti-conservative cut taxes, spend more agenda.
The only thing we need to worry about in this country is our debt.
Also I am sorry to say this but Obama had way more conservative views than McCain.

It took a lot longer than 8 years, but keep believing that partisan nonsense, it will be our socialistic undoing. *kisses the country goodbye*

Re: The majority of hacking and data theft is perpetrated by?

If you are connecting to government computers from your home, I would hope the government is watching what you are doing while you are connected to them. Just like every time you connect to a corporate website, they (or more aptly, we) are watching what you are doing.

Legally, when ever you connect to another person or company's computer, you have agreed to them monitoring your usage because, after all, it is their property and they have the right to monitor and protect it. Once you packets hit one of my systems, I am in my rights to inspect every packet.

In the case of government systems, the government can do the same thing.

Frankly, I'm just amazed at the conspiracy nuts who are posting on this story about how this is such an evil thing or posting how the government will soon have people walking around asking for your papers. Get real people.

This has nothing to do with spying on people..

It has to do with situation awareness. As someone who worked on both versions 1 and 2, I know exactly what the program is about, and that is all I will say on the matter.

As for being on a gov network, you have no expectation of privacy, plain and simple. Every single time you log onto the network, you get a banner message that says everything you do will be monitored.

Same goes for people who use external gov sites, read the privacy agreement, it states that everything you do while interacting with a gov system is subject to monitoring.

What is so difficult to understand about that.

Also, I am not sure what ATT has to do with this, since the program from a technical aspect is somewhat voluntary as you place taps on your ISP side cable drops (could be anyone, not just ATT) and it must pass muster from the privacy offices of the respective agencies.

Seriously people.. take off your tinfoil hats..
