Adelphia SMTP down (772 Area)

Got calls from some of my customers on Adelphia they can't send but receive email OK.
Checked my own and found:
1. I can send to other Adelphia addresses
2. All others get relay error 550.
Called 877-224-2097 (for Adelphia customers, I was told,) and a nice fellow told me I'll be out for 24 to 48 hours for the SMTP transition.
No notification except for a snail on March 16. Asked if I could change SMTP from mail.adelphia.net to mail.comcast.net.
Was told it wouldn't work, I would just be out until notified.
Not a very good intro.

Change the outgoing to smtp.comcast.net.

Tried changing to mail.comcast.net.
Didn't work.
Adelphia/Comcast tech told me it wouldn't.
Really, he just said in plain language, no outgoing email for 24 to 48 hours.
But he was sorry.

Have you tried moving your email over at »https://welcome.comcast.net?

Was advised by both Comcast and Adelphia? (Diff. tel #) that I am in the process of being transferred and my SMTP "WILL NOT WORK" for 24 to 48 hours. (But they were sorry about that!)
This AM, about 24 hours later, Adelphia SMTP is back. Outgoing is mail.adelphia.net and it's working again.
Interestingly, I have neighbors and customers only a mile away that have/had Adelphia and have received the email and snailmail that they are now Comcast,as of yesterday, 3/26 and are now using Comcast POP and SMTP.
I'm down the road and still with Adelphia..

Another interesting note, I can go to welcome.comcast.com and it knows who I am and gives me the start steps to transfer. Really don't want to start that until notified. I wonder if they're doing it by ZIP codes???

No, no you're not Adelphia. All Florida markets have been transferred to Comcast now. You should begin using Comcast mail servers. The adjustment to allow you to continue to use the old Adelphia (now Time Warner) mail system is only temporary and will go away in time.

Please begin using the Comcast mail system as soon as possible.

I have the Comcast notice in front of me that says:

"Soon you will be transferring your email account(s) to Comcast. We have a shiny new mailbox waiting for you! Soon we will be sending you the information and instructions you'll need to easily transition your Adelphia email account(s) to Comcast. Keep an eye out for this email--it will be the confirmation that your change to Comcast has begun and the green light to start the email transfer process."

So you are saying we should not following these instructions, not wait for the email, but go ahead and transfer our mail accounts now?

Using the Comcast Properties causes SMTP errors.
When I call the Comcast support 800-683-1000, I get relayed to Comcast. When I talk to them, they tell be I'm not really Comcast and they can't access the servers and give me 877-224-2097 who say their sort of Adelphia, but not really. They're the ones who tell me that I haven't been tranitioned, based on my Acct. #, and be patient and expect more outages, maybe.
But they're sorry.
Anyway, I'm back emailing with Adelphia and working.

Adelphia has no visibility nor control over any equipment now in Florida. If Comcast wasn't 100% fully prepared to accept 1/4 million new internet customers, that is tragic, but not wholly unforgivable either. This was a huge transition, there will be errors and miscommunication here and there.

And you can continue to use Adelphia mail settings as long as it continues to work. Just keep in mind, it was/is intended as transitional and temporary.

And you will know you have been transitioned, network wise, by checking your IP address. The account number ties to billing info and is the basis for call center reps to locate you and obtain visibility into your account and local equipment.

I'm in the SOHO business so I pretty much know what to look for but always appreciate any help.
Still sitting on "atlsfl.adelphia.net" so I know we haven't been moved yet.
My neighbor 1/2 a mile down the road has.

Interesting how they have it split up.
HPC in Jupiter got the letter as I did and is still on Adelphia's servers, as I am in Jensen Beach.
My customers on South Hutchinson Island and "some" in the City of Stuart are moved.
Wonder how they do that. :huh:

My bad.
Checking back I found out that those who made the change were never notified, they did it on the advise of the person at the 877 number, who identified themselves as Comcast working only with Adelphia customers.
They were able to make the transition even though never notified by email or whatever.
Hope CC doesn't pull the switch on these folks. They're using CC as their POP and SMTP.
Tried it myself and found I can set it up either way.
I can logon to either CC or Adelphia webmail also.

comcast mail server settings are

incoming mail server: mail.comacast.net
outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net

These can be change in OE or Outlook by opening the program; selecting tools; accounts, email; properties; then tabbing over to the servers tab. Provided your area has transitioned, this should cure it. There is an email transition wizard that you can choose by going to welcome.comcast.net, choosing comcast.net as your provider (provided you have completed the transistion phase) enter username and password. You will then select download comcast tools, scroll to the bottom of the page and you can download it. Just a couple second fix for those that aren't comfortable changing their email server settings.
