Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3250HD
or
Samsung SMT-H3050

Both are HD boxes though. Samsung was the latest we got here about a month ago upper manhattan.

I have the SA 8300HDC too. What I wish to do is to connect the one box to two televisions using hdmi and coaxial but this is not possible because the built in copy protection causes an error. Wonder if I would still have this problem if I got the Samsung box? Is the Samsung hd dvr also.

Got the Samsung SMT-H3050 in Lower Manhattan and I'm not particularly happy with it. It needs to be rebooted several times a month due to Movies on Demand stalling, clock stopping, info boxes not going away, and other bugs.

Mine doesn't seem to support HD via coaxial and this model doesn't have DVR.

Because of the software they are using on these boxes. It now has a cable card and the interface is much much slower. Mystro is soooooo slow. I wish I had the Navigator software I had before. When you watch a saved show thru the DVR , the show you were watching before was not saved in the que like before.

Do you know if it has a single cable card serving both tuners or two separate cable cards? The reason I ask is that I was told on Thursday at the TW office in Manhattan that they do not have M-Card cable cards (which serve two tuners with one card). I don't know if the guy was blowing smoke because I was asking for the purpose of using it in a TIVO box, hence no profit for them in renting me a cable box and DVR service.

They have M cards. In fact that's all they have according to the guy that installed mine. I'm in queens but I think it's all the same.

So the guy lied to me to my face when he said that they don't have M cards. Reduces my desire to become a Time Warner customer. I'm currently with RCN and I believe they charge $1.50 for M cards.

cable cards are not very popular and are problematic. some reps unintentionally give u wrong info.

Actually, the multi-stream cablecards in those boxes are included with and tied to those boxes. So while they may be plentiful in the SA*HDC's, the CSR may be truthful in that there are no 'standalone' multi-stream cards available.

Just had an M-Card installed in Manhattan two weeks ago. Judging by the tech's toolbox, there's no shortage.

The only thing there's a shortage of is common sense at TWC!

I tried to pick the M-Card up at the office, but they insisted on rolling a truck. So a week later the truck rolled, the tech phoned in the serial number from the card and the host id from my TiVo, everything worked, and he left.

Why can't TWC just give you a CableCard and let you input the serial number and host id on their web site?

Customers would get their service a week earlier, TWC would increase the productivity of their techs, save the cost of a truck roll, and the environment would be saved a few miles of truck driving.

Win, win, win, and win!

You're kidding right. Please tell me you're using the 3250 on a SDTV. If you're using it on an HDTV, you've got a lot to learn my friend. The 3250 is an SD box. If you have an HDTV, go out and get an HD box like...NOW. Preferably the Explorer 8300HD.

There is an HD version of the 3250. I have one myself. We have had ours since our first HDTV until we got a 8300HDC.

I recently picked up a new cable box (non-DVR) in NYC and it is the 4250HDC that has HDMI output. I was given a choice of which box I wanted but not all of them have HDMI output. This box also has component. I wanted to stay with SA anyhow. I think the other choices were Pioneer and Samsung.

3250's are OK and 4250HDCs are OK also (About the same response as 3250s)

San Diego might be deploying the Samsung SMT-H3050. If you love your non TWC remote try using the codes for Pace boxes. Those codes seem to work.

Samsung also has a HD-DVR made with MPEG-4, Multiroom, and other cool features. Model number for that box is SMT-H3090.

Samsung DVR is SMT-H3090. Supposedly this box is replacing the SA 8240/8300 series. I hope it's better than the 8300HDC. Has TWC deployed the new Samsung HD-DVR in NYC? If it's better then I might be interested though I'm in the San Diego area.

I believe my department is the only ones that have it thus far. The DVR looks a lot better than the 8300. It feels heavier too. It's still going to run on Mystro though.

Is the guide in Widescreen? Next generation cable boxes are going to have this feature. I would think that it's possible. The BCM supposedly can do one in widescreen.

I think it will be deployed early next year. Later in 2009 other divisions will start getting it once it's done testing. They have to test it to ensure quality control.

After using both the Samsung SMT-H3050 and Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HDC, I advise anyone with the Samsung to throw it away immediately. It's significantly slower and more unstable compared to the SA.

Instead of paying $10 for the DVR cable box rental can I perhaps buy a dvr cable box from ebay and just use it instead of the one given by TWC and save this montly fee?

JeahP,

Do not buy a cable box off of ebay. Your just wasting your money. Unless you want a nice paperweight then don't bother. Cable boxes have special procedures when it comes to activation and it has to be registered from the headend. The security system doesn't allow it. The only purchaseable DVR for digital cable is the Tivo HD, HD XL or Series 3. That requires a cable card and their service but they offer a lifetime service.

Tks for the reply - those Tivo dvr boxes with lifetime service are quite expensive, I suppose its cheaper to continue paying $10 rental fee each month to enjoy DVR service. :(

No you can't buy a cablebox. I've already said it once and now I'll say it again. TWC won't activate it. Even if they can get the authorization keys it still wouldn't work. It would be too much of a hassle. Only boxes registered to TWC NY would work. You can use a PC with an IR blaster or a Hauppauge HD-PVR. The 3250HD does use Firewire capturing but TWC uses 5C copy flags on some of their channels.

If it's belongs to TWC NYC then it should be ok but that depends on which part you live in. A box in TWC San Diego couldn't be activated to TWC NYC due to the security seems. In Canada you could buy your cable boxes but that doesn't seem possible. Most of the ebay boxes are from Canada or could be from people who didn't bother to return them. They could also be stolen.

I use the front USB port on my SA 8300HDC to charge my iPod :) Most cable operators have the USB port disabled for anything useful.

Most box firmwares have them disabled... on top of that the software running on the box usually doesn't have any drivers. Cable providers can't exactly enable something the box and software maker really aren't supporting either.

OTOH, some of the SA boxes will allow a keyboard to be plugged in which will control the box like the remote does though.

I hear it will happen by this summer. I hear they have 320 GB HDD's, MoCA, DLNA, Ethernet, and MPEG-4. I too want one since my 8300HDC sometimes aggravates me with TWC's ODN software. I hope ODN gets better. The Samsung H3090 is made for OCrAP so it should perform much better than an 8300HDC. I also think it looks better than the 8300HDC. It's heavier though.

For the DVR box they will use the 8300HDC. Non DVR will either be the Samsung SMT-H3050. The Samsung HD-DVR and next gen HD box are in testing right now. The next gen Samsung model numbers are 3260 for the HD-STB and 3270 for the HD-DVR. The 3090 might be deployed but I think they will deploy the 32xx boxes since they are newer.

I don't like the Samsung boxes due to the quality of the picture on channels, menu settings and so on. I like and have the SA 4250 HDC box and 2 SA 8300 HDC boxes . I like and enjoy the SA boxes much better.

All I know is that Queens will be getting the Samsung 3090 in about a month or so. As for your area then ask Visuelz. Our area might even be deploying them right now.

The 3050 isn't as good as the 4250 but there is a new box that's coming out from samsung called the 3260. The 3270 will replace it. Also the SMT-H3090 has better specs than the 8300HDC. I can't wait for the Samsung boxes in our area. The 320 GB HDD is a nice touch.

well I for one would like to see the Samsungs too when they come out. I do like what graphics you put up. I am in Staten Island, so can't be too far behind with Queens,
So another words the 3260 and 3270 will replace the 3050. I am a little lost on that one. AS far as I know only the 3050 is out in Staten Island now.

3270 would replace the 8300HDC. The guide is stretch-o-vision on the 3090 and 3270. It does have the larger drive. The 3260 would replace the 3050 but in our division it's replacing the 4250HDC. I didn't put up those graphics. We have an area north of us that use Moto boxes with iGuide and Navigator is a better guide IMO. I'm just not used to iGuide though.

The SMT-H3090 should be coming out soon in NYC. It was supposed to come out this month but it got delayed for some reason. Hopefully all the TWC divisions should be seeing it by June. TWC is replacing Passport on the older boxes with MDN on May 1st. MDN is Navigator but for older TWC boxes. Don't know why TWC is letting San Diego get the new boxes first. We must be a test market to them. It might be later but I've heard that the hardware has been great.

Manual for the SMT-H3090. Notice that there are two HDD choices. One is 160 GB and the other is 320. The majority of the TWC divisions is buying them with the 320 GB HDD.

Actually it's May 31st. June 1 is a likely date. This will likely be a staged rollout. They will update the HD-DVR's on one day and the non DVR's on another day. Thats how they did it in my division. MDN has gotten better but it has its issues.

ODN will be on the Samsung boxes. The 3090 will be deployed in NYC in about a month or so. The 3270 has some issues and San Diego is probably going to be the launch division for it. It also needs the new version of ODN to fix the bugs. MDN runs on older SA or Pioneer equipment. If you have an old Pioneer box running MDN, please swap it since they aren't designed to run it.

I still think the 3090 not the 3270 will be used in NYC. The 3270 has been a great box but it does have some bugs that need to be ironed out. Both of them have 320 GB HDD's. MDN should be available on the legacy boxes in June or later. The 3270 should be deployed some time in July for the San Diego market. I don't know when NYC will deploy it. They might deploy the 3260 to replace the 3050 but not the 3270. The 3090 is new enough for now. It has MPEG-4, Networking, 320 GB HDD's and dual 1 GHz tuners.

rv65 you are extrememly knowlegable! i read the specs for samsung boxes on their website. do you know if these samsung ocap boxes use docsis for signaling or the old fashioned out of band method.

rv65 so does that take away some bandwith for docsis data users even though box signaling should use very minimal bandwith. i would assume then return signaling goes on docsis upstream channel as well? i dont actually have a samsung box so i cant look at diag menu. i'll swap out my old SA box when samsung is available.

the motorola testing is excellent.

My DCT2500 has 74.24 iguide
My DCH3416's have 74.53-4003 iguide

it is just a coding issue with i-guide

the DVR has passthrough now
the dct has gained a day in guide data.
the DCH has 17 days of guide data now.

they have already released the DCX-3200's in dallas.

the DCT and the DCH have what macrovision was calling the J-Guide.

Yep you could say that. The HDC boxes have DSG and DAVIC though DAVIC is what they use for OOB. The 3050, 3090, 3260, and 3270 boxes all have DOCSIS modems. Thats how OCAP/tru2way works since this will also be in devices that aren't made by Cisco/SA or Motorola. I'm waiting until our division gets the 3270 and 3260 though NYC is getting the 3090.

motorola use the om1000 for OOB my are has it set to 75.25MHz.

the upstream is 10.976MHz

the DCH boxes have really nice decoders but it is the software that is the holdback.

The good news is that MDN still plays nice with eSATA drives. ODN still has it's issues with the external drive. The president of my division says a new ODN version is coming out. This might be deployed soon or within a few months. This update fixes some bugs with the 3270. Perhaps it will add the remote scheduling and the expanded program guide listings. It might have eSATA enabled. Or it might not have any new features and fix a few bugs.

San Diego which is my division is the only division that seems to be interested in deploying the 3260 and the 3270 boxes for now. Other TWC divisions might end up deploying them at a later date. For now the 3090 is being deployed in certain markets like Milwaukee, and Charlotte, NC. Kansas City, and NYC should get it within a month.

I just had the tech come out here (Briarwood, Queens) To replace my ailing 8300HDC. I have have nothing but problems with this box, it is impossibly slow, stutters, and then it simply stopped working altogether. I was keeping my fingers crossed that they would give me a samsung box, but much to my dismay the tech walked in with another 8300HDC. On top of that TWC feels necessary to tack on a $40 charge to my bill to replace their hardware which doesn't work correctly. I will no doubt be disputing this. The version on the new box is 3.1.0_11, I'm not sure what the old box's version was, but I am just waiting for this new one to start failing.

The Samsung is a bit buggy with ODN 3.1.0_11 according to the AVS. The ones with 3.1.1_3 are a bit better. Of course our division is getting the newer 3270 with an even newer version of ODN that will fix the bugs. Not all 3090's have the 320 GB HDD. Some have the 160 GB HDD :(. I think NYC will deploy them with a 320 GB HDD since it will make them more competitive with FiOS and the like. You'll just have to be patient.

My 8300HDC has the occasional grey screen issue. It's where the box will all the sudden show a grey screen. I've got it hooked up to component. You could ask visuelz or the TWC guys when it will be coming out but all I know that it's likely in testing.

The 3050 only supports MPEG-2. The 3090, 3260, and 3270 all support MPEG-4. I don't think TWC will go MPEG-4 since it there are a ton of old legacy MPEG-2 boxes. TWC doesn't want to piss off a ton of customers who refuse to swap their boxes just so that they can watch the latest MPEG-4 HD channels. I could see it for 1080p VOD though since it's much more efficient.

I think June 1st but not sure if it will be that time. They could have delayed them yet again. Our division is delaying the 32xx boxes until mid july. Might want to ask Visuelz or the top NYC management.

The 3090's are quite buggy with ODN v3.1.0_11. They run much better with 3.1.1_3. Of course TWC NYC doesn't seem interested in deploying the new version. The 3270 box is also buggy on 3.1.1_3. The next ODN version will fix those bugs.

Looks like the 3090's are available right now. However they are in limited supplies. The trucks have them. So it might be a month or so. They've just started deploying them.

The 3090 is eSATA compatible. One lady in Milwaukee used a 500 GB myBook and it worked after a few reboots. This is with ODN 3.1.1_3 which isn't being used in NYC. 3.1.0_11 is the version NYC is using. That version might act differently. Granted that TWC Milwaukee is using the 160 GB 3090's and not the 320 GB version.

Oh well maybe they'll eventually deploy the 320 GB ones. There are a few lucky subscribers that have the 320 GB version though not in NYC.

Don't get your hopes up to high since they are deploying the 160 GB model though one person in Milwaukee was able to get a WD mybook to work with it. I hope they eventually get the 320 GB version later. Maybe they'll wait for the 3270 for the 320 GB HDD.

To all the NYC customers. Your next recent or next cable bill mentions Navigator. Looks like MDN will be deployed within a few weeks on select HD and maybe SD boxes. Though a Pioneer Voyager BD-V1100 running MDN is absolutely horrible. If you have an 8300HD or any other half way non Pioneer legacy box then it's not so bad.

MDN is for older boxes like the 8300HD. All the non C boxes will get it. It's similar to the HDC software but made for the older legacy boxes. It's not written in C and not Java. Just don't run it on the old legacy boxes.

Ok I'm getting really fed up with my 8300HDC box. It crashes constantly taking down my 1TB eSATA drive along with it. (it doesn't see the shows recorded on it after reboot) It's also pretty slow compared to the older Pioneer software and heck feels weaker than my blackberry.

Going with real Tivo doesn't seem to be the answer because of how lukewarm TWC seems to be with cablecards.

What are other solutions? Is there a better box in the making? I used to be a TWC tech, but I'm wondering if the people here know more rumors than my buddies in the field. Thanks for all your help.

The current version of ODN doesnt work with eSATA. The 3090 can run eSATA but it takes a bit of rebooting. The 3090 has it's own set of issues.

23rd street does have the 3090. One guy did get one. You'll have to ask them that you want the 3090. Let us know how you like it. Then again I'm enjoying my Samsung SMT-H3260 :) which is even better than the 3050.

It looks like Passport will be done for very soon.

Now's the time to swap that old Pioneer or old SA box. I'm talking about the 8000/8000HD, 3100, 3100HD and the 1000-2000 boxes. The Pioneer 1000-3000 boxes. Those boxes suck with MDN. You can use it but it will be slow. The 3250HD and the 8300 boxes are quite good with MDN.

probably not. The queens center mall reps are the biggest bunch of inept retards on the planet, 100x worse than the indian phone support.

You're much better going to Manhattan, and finding out there, just say you work in the area, and dont have time once you get home etc.. They had on the shelves today 10+ behind the reps, you can plainly see them.

Why cant we all go to Manhattan to swap boxes , I mean why don't the other offices have them, when we shouldnt have to wait for them, they should all out in NYC , not just on East 23 st. I had the same problem last year I went to Brooklyn and Manhattan with my box, because I was in towns , and was told since I am from Staten Island, these boxes will not work and I would have to go and exchange in Staten Island.

they tried the same line with me. Few years ago i needed to swap out a old toshiba modem and 4 SA Boxes. I dreaded going to the Queens mall because, their service is horrendous. So i went to the closest one near me job (23rd st) and they swapped it out no problem. I also did a swap out of my telephony modem, to the newer arris 602 from there as well.

even though SI is part of twcnyc, a lot of operations are sperate from manhattan/queens/brooklyn. u can walk into these centers to return boxes, pay bill, talk to rep about service issues, sign up for service etc. but sorry no box swaps between staten island and rest of nyc

I personally took 4 boxes from my home (astoria) to the 23rd St location, and swapped them with no problem for 4 SMT-3050 boxes. As i swapped a EMTA as well. It's software that makes the box area specific, not the box itself.

I was at the TWC this morning as well. I was there to switch out my standard DVR box for an HD DVR box. I can confirm that they do indeed have the Samsung 3090 boxes. And they are very new. The one I got was still in it's cardboard container! haha My rep told me the boxes came in on Friday. They were giving out the Samsung boxes as default ones because the customers on my left and right were getting HD DVR boxes as well and they were getting the same as me.

I have a question for those who have the Samsung boxes. Does your box take a while to start up? I don't mean a cold boot. When I hit the power button, it takes about 20 seconds for an image to show on the screen. (so a no signal message is shown on the tv before then) I am using the HDMI connection. Does this happen any one else?

I just switched apts. in the same building and the HD service has suffered. I've got the Samsung 3050 HD which they claim is the newest box, although changing channels/etc is very slow. Even regular SD channels.

The only difference from my old apt. is that now I'm using HDMI to connect to the TV - but this shouldn't matter, right?

I don't have HD DVR nor do I want it. Does anyone know if there's a better HD box than the 3050? And does anyone else have lag/lock/etc problems with the 3050?

I just ordered new service starting in Greenpoint Brooklyn 11222, for this Friday June 26. We will be running HDMI cable to a Pioneer Elite VSX reciever which will run HDMI from to the TV, a Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L37S1. We want DVR and HD (obviously), as well as having Roadrunner.

Is there any particular box that I should request? How about anything else that we should be aware of?

The 3260 is newer than the 3090 but it's not a DVR. The 3270 is the newer Samsung DVR that San Diego is going to deploy. I have a 3260 and it has a sleek piano black look but it resembles the samsung boxes. The 3260 is basically a 3270 but without the DVR function. The 3270 might have a different look. All I know is that it's black, newer and has a 320 GB HDD.

Then again there are a few 320 GB equipped 3090's. TWC in Charlotte deployed just a few of them. Then they deployed the 160 GB version :(. The 320 GB ones do have some issues. Then again TWC Charlotte and NYC need to update their ODN version to fix the 3090's bugs. The 3270 just isn't ready to be deployed yet. The next ODN version should make the 3270 ready to be deployed for customers.

I have no idea when. Maybe in another year or so. The 3270 is a new box and it has bugs to be fixed. My 3260 which doesn't have the DVR function could replace the 3050 but TWC NYC might be the last to get it. Samsung has been mentioning it but It doesn't seem to exist. It also needs the latest ODN to fix it's bugs. I do know that TWC NYC could likely deploy the 320 GB 3090 instead of the 3270. There might be a 160 or 250 GB version of the 3270 for all I know. The 3270 has similar characteristics to the 3090. All I can say is that I don't know.

MDN is now being deployed to the DVR boxes in Queens, NY. The 8300 boxes are being done right now. Mainly the 8300HD's. Then again it sucks on the 8000/8000 HD-DVR. So if you have an 8000 box then you should probably swap it for a new Samsung 3090, 8300HDC or a 8300HD.

I just got back from 23rd, they said there is no Samsung 3260 available(no such model according to the person I talked to)

I end up upgraded to 3090DVR, what interesting is some channel such as NY1HD, ESPN2HD is blocked, but GOLTV is unblocked. But on 3050, it is vice verse.

Picked up 3090 today at 23rd St in Manhattan.

Some notes:
* No coaxial output - I understand this output is becoming obsolete but I had use for it with VCR (which is also becoming obsolete)

* Trying to get component video (RGB) to work but picture scrambled? Will the box output both HDMI and component at same time? I like to connect two televisions to one box. (answer is no, once hdmi connected device is activated, component output stops, composite still works) This was the same with Scientific Atlanta.
Update: using component with older tv, only accepts 480i, switched it and it work, but for some reason composite picture appears better

The Samsung 3260 is a HD-STB while the 3270 is a HD-DVR. Only 1 division is known to have them and thats my division. As for Cisco well who knows. They've also tested the Motorola multi room boxes.

It's newer and has better specs. It supports MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. It also has a sleek all black appearance.

Is the 3090 better quality than the other 3 boxes NYC has , 4250, 8300 and 3050 ? What Specs does it have ? Maybe this month (August) , Staten Island will get them. I heard they are being tested in Queens and Manhattan and that they are in a warehouse in SI until further notice. Thats what they tell me here in SI

The 3090 is very nice! I upgraded from the SA 8300HD. The SA was having serious issues with the mystro upgrade. The 3090 is way faster, a ton more connection options in the back, looks way nicer in the AV rack, and still has the new equipment smell. If u are having a problem in NYC with HD reception, ask for the samsung 3090.

mine is the same no coax digital output
there is a audio digital output but it looks like a BNC connection

MY 3090 has a digital audio out right next to the HDMI output. It uses RCA type connector. It doesn't have an RF coaxial output for an older TV.

Went to TWC at Queens Cntr Mall last weekend and they told me that they only get a few 3090's every few days. Instead gave me a 8300hdc. what a piece of junk. settings don't work - no pass-through! i have to use stretch mode to get a 16:9 picture. will be returning soon

Yep they haven't been getting 3090's lately. Maybe they've come to their senses and started getting them with 320 GB HDD's. It's not worth it to put 160 GB HDD's in these boxes anymore.

I went down to 23st on tueday they had the Samsung 3090HD.I got one it was not a 320. I was told that they dont know when they will come in. :(

I don't pay extra for DVR. But would I still get a DVR 3090 box? Or do they have different boxes for DVR vs non DVR? And I assume all the new boxes are both HD and non HD ?

1.) so am i right to assume 3090 is my preffered choice? Is it faster than the H3050?

I am looking to connect with HDMI and use DVR services...

I am trying to make sure this is the fast box... i hate comcast at my apt in Maryland... takes forever to info, guide, or on demand...

2.) time warner told me that I MUST get an installation if i want a second box? is that true?

I asked them if I could come in to pick it up, and they said i must do the $40 installation. That i could not pick it up, because it wouldn't work right, and that if i changed the channel in on one box, it would change the channel on the box in my room as well.

I don't believe this, because upgraded and picked up the box i already have (Samsung H3050), and it worked--no problem--with self installation...

anyone have any knowledge of this? most appreciated!

You can self install as many boxes as you desire. I think most CSR's say a lot of BS just to sell your their installation.

No you have to call TWC to have them activated. Some divisions have a dedicated number for box activations. It's one of those automated deals that is ok I guess.

With the exception of 1 person I read about, I don't believe 23rd st. has ever been distributing 320GB 3090s. I've got a 320 in mine, but it was a "field upgrade". I don't believe there's any set day for a new box shipment either. It's pretty much a crap shoot. Unfortunately, you can't just call ahead and see what they have either.

in nyc, additional boxes can ONLY be installed via a truck roll. I've added 3 boxes to my house; truck roll needed for each one. no way around it or the install fee. the channel changing thing is bs. the truck roll is company policy.

What? I live in New York and NO ONE else that I've seen on these forums has EVER said anything close to that. I swap them and get new ones all the time at the place.

I can take a box to the them and have it swapped for a new one, but I was told that a truck roll was necessary to "add" a box to my account.

Swapping is not a problem. If you want a NEW additional box installed, you need to have a truck roll.

The 3270 doesn't have PIP and it only has 1 buffer so you can't swap tuners. Even if TWC did use an OCAP version of passport you still couldn't swap the tuners since it only has 90 minute buffer. Other than those 2 minor issues I think it's a great DVR. I love the 320 GB HDD.

after countless operators telling me that i MUST have a truck rolled out / AKA installation,

it's untrue.

if you goto the 23rd ST location ANYWAY, like i did, they will provide you with an additional box *without extra fees*.

concerning the Samsung theory:
The woman told me that they do not use the Samsung boxes anymore; however,
i seen some boxes with samsung logos piled up.

either they only have Samsungs' for DVR boxes,
or they just stopped using them,
or they do not cater to personal preference, and you have to go on a day they are in stock.

BTW: This SA box is crap. so slow... so now that i have some extra time, i will be trying to trade it in for a Samsung when i get the chance, and post if i get lucky.

the SD Quality on the 3050 is bad , HD is great . HD is good on both sets , SD is better looking on the 4250, I have the 4250 SA Box. Depends on what channels you want

3090 boxes still NOT in Staten Island . This is now 4 months since in the City in June with these boxes. 3270 and 3260 are not being given out in NY, don't know why TWC is based on a merket by market basis when it comes to Converters,. Channels and so 0n, it makes no sense to me whatsoever

My CableCard set is being replaced so I will be picking up an HD STB for my new set. Is the Samsung 3050 the best choice (if I have one)? I still have a SA8300HD, but want to connect a second HD box to the new set. I will be going to the Richmond Hill TWC office to exchange my CC for the STB.

Is the 3090 box like the 3050 , with the Stretched GUide, Strecthed Info data , (Takes up the whole screen) SD blurry ., I also don't like how the menu settings are on the Samsung, the SA is much easier to navigate. If it is , then I will stick with the SA Boxes. 2 SA HD DVRS and 1 SA 3250 Digital Is what I have. I don't get those issues with the SA Boxes that I got with the 3050. I ask about the 3090 because they are not in SI yet .
