I can wait but our division operates Desert Cities and they got a few HD channels that San Diego doesn't have yet.

Except San Diego should be getting HD channels that SoCal is getting. We aren't worthy enough to have BBCA HD, Travel HD, and MSNBC HD. I'd kill to have those channels. Even more than premiums in HD.
No worries, customer service up here still doesn't know anything about a BBC America in HD.... :D

As usualy, they probably will get a circular email 3 weeks after the fact stating: "Oh by the way, if any customer asks, we just added these channels 3 weeks ago".

That's usually how they know. :D

Re: New HDTV channels in Socal this fall

so you have about 90-100 HD channels non SDV. Thats nice. Didnt twc drop all expanded basic channels in the former comcast systems in the LA area?

My system is getting SDV by the end of the year. They are adding 20 HD right off the bat the last week of december.

We have had CBS COLLEGE SPORTS HD since 12/08. We were upgraded to 870MHz from 750MHz last year. They also added some new 1GHz nodes to my system when they upgraded. :)

We already have 51HD now so we should go to 71HD by the end of the year.

I go the HD channels todayafter my notice said it'd be early December as well. Zip code 90034 - Culver City, Los Angeles line. That all said, Nick Jr/Noggin (Chan 182) hasn't been working since this morning. It was frozen on a frame of a screen with a blue-ish background (not solid blue, but but just a gradient...no text or anything) for a little awhile, but back to being either just black saying nothing or saying the channel will be back shortly.

My 3-year old is missing all his favorite shows! hehe...

Yep, TWC dropped it last year when adding the other HD channels back in December 2008. I think SDV is arriving next month or so as TWC said in the letter: "Starting on December 8th, 2009 digital equipment will be needed to continue to viewing channel KWHY....it will continue to be view in a digital format that can be viewed using two-way capable Digital Cable equipment, such as Digital Cable Set-top Box or cableCARD-equipped TiVO or Digeo HD DVR used in conjunction with a tuning adapter."

None of those channels should actually be in clearQAM, you are lucky that ESPN and ESPN2 are clearQAM! (I'm gonna do a rescan right now LOL)

Normally you only get the broadcast networks + their digital extra's and PBS and their digital extra's.

ESPN and FSN are normally encoded. You should be able to get the analog version of those on your TV card though.

said by rv65 :

I just don't get why a city right next door gets 20 HD channels (I did not count them) and my city gets say.... 15 or so, and some of them are completely different and not available in the first city.

For instance, I am getting ESPN-U HD, whereas the cities getting BBC America HD are NOT getting ESPN-U HD.

Eh what? :D

To be more specific, one group of cities is getting:

AMC HD 480
WE HD 486
E! HD 487
History International HD 455
IFC HD 480
Fuse HD 494
MSNBC HD 446
HLN HD 447
CBS College Sports HD 474
NBA TV HD 472
Outdoor Channel HD 499
G4 HD 495
TV One HD 498
Investigation Discovery HD 449
BBC America HD 448
WGN America HD 458
TCM HD 478
Style HD 488
HSN HD 489
QVC HD 490

While another group of cities are getting:

Speed HD 468
ESPNU HD 467
Disney XD HD 461
The Weather Channel HD 454
AMC HD 480
E! HD 487
History International HD 455
IFC HD 480
Fuse HD 494
MSNBC HD 446
HLN HD 447
CBS College Sports HD 474
NBA TV HD 472
G4 HD 495
TV One HD 498

I would understand if they just cut 5 channels in certain cities because their networks aren't quite ready yet.... but why are there difference in channel offerings from city to city, and will the city of Tustin, CA get the top 20, while the city next door, Orange, CA will get the bottom 15, and will get a number of channels that are completely different?

I'd rather change too, I much rather have BBC America HD than ESPN-U HD, I don't watch University Sports. :D

And I guess half of the southland gets to shop in HD, and the other half doesn't. :D (Not that I care much about those anyways...)

Well hey.... I get to watch car races and the weather in HD, while the other half of the southland doesn't. :D

The Former Comcast areas already have those channels, legacy TWC and former Adelphia are kind of playing catch up. This is mainly due to the fact that former Comcast areas don't carry the Basic Cable tier in analog.

Re: New HDTV channels in Socal this fall

Well that's what I don't get....

Comcast and Adephia areas have been TWC for what, three years now?

Why not work towards a channel set that is the same for everyone, instead of a patch-work of different channel lineups?

I understand local channels, city council channels and university channels that aren't available in other cities, but you can reserve a set of channels for those that are the same in most cities.

Other then that, channels should be the SAME for everyone paying the SAME amount of money. You can roll em out in phases so you don't have to troubleshoot the entire region at once, but this makes it seem like a big patchwork blanket.

Just start fresh with a whole new set of channel numbers. One that is the same for everyone.

Re: New HDTV channels in Socal this fall

That's what is happening, in fact the channels line ups are pretty much identical between the 3 different systems (for channels above 100). And they are all going to be getting the same channels TWC and Adelphia areas are some of the newly added channels and some of the channels that were added a little while ago to the Comcast areas (SpeedHD, EPSN-U, etc.)
In Comcast areas you always needed a box for the expanded basic service, while TWC and Adelphia offer it in Analog, so there is that extra bandwith already there.

Of course TWC's definition of "shortly" is roughly the same as their definition of "soon".

It annoys me that no one at TWC can ever give dates. You ask their customer support: "When we will have FSN and FSN Prime Ticket in HD" - they answer back "We have no clue" - and 6 hours later they change the announcement page to say they will be launching FSN and FSN PM a few days later on channel 463 and 464.

They probably aren't told anything, scared as they are that one of em might actually.... you know, tell a customer? :D

Dates change often and unfortunately until they are firmed up no one tells anyone anything. Its horrible customer service to tell customers the wrong date for something. This forum has seen many occasions where well meaning people were called liars as the dates changed.

Oh it gets better.

I once called customer service to ask about adding Sci-Fi HD, and the customr service kindly informed me that they did not have Sci-Fi HD in their current package, BUT that they would be offering several new HD channels such as CNN-HD and History Channel HD within the next few months.

The only problem was.... that Sci-Fi HD was already carried by them in several other cities.... and that I already had all of the channels in HD he rattled up that should be "coming in the next few months". I alsmost felt like taking on a discussion with this guy, but remembered quickly it was probably a waste of my time.

They aren't informed "when the dates are firmed up", they aren't told AT ALL.

And there is nothing wrong with customer service saying:

"The date is TENTATIVLY scheduled for then-and-then, but this planning hasn't got final approval yet so the date may change."

And they have done that in the past.... but that was before the big mess with the Adelphia and Comcast takeover happened and they merged the three customer service departments into 1, and fired a whole lot of em.

It works a whole lot better then.... "We know nothing, we know nothing, we know nothing....Oh hey guess what you got new channels last week!"

There actually is plenty wrong with that. In most cases the only thing focused on is the date!

Were you an ex Adelphia, Comcast or Time Warner Customer?

Re: New HDTV channels in Socal this fall

Time Warner, always have been.

And yes, from 2002 when I first started the service till about 2006-7-ish, I had a hell of a lot better service then I have now.

Not so much in the quality of the service, because I still have a good speed, almost no downtime, and good quality HDTV.... but in the treatment of their customers.

I used to call their customer service, and they actually would be able to tell me when they were going to improve the speeds, or when they were going to release new channels. None of this "soon" crap, but an actual estimate of "Early January", or something along those lines.... and they would actually make that target date too.

Ever since the Adelphia/Comcast addition to Time Warner things have been mismanaged. I guess there is a reason they replaced the whole management here. ;)

well Hob, my family and I were former Comcast cable customers in mid-2006 before TWC took over in late summer 2006 in our area.

at last, MORE HD channels in the Hollywood/Wilshire area of Los Angeles including the long overdue WGN HD, NBA TV HD, AMC HD, Style HD and WE HD channels!

now TWC socal needs is to add the Spike HD channel in their SoCal HD lineup
