Re: [TWC] New HD channels for San Diego

looks like motorola SDV solutions is moving along well.

I hope they just use only these qams in my system for SDV

1 PPV QAM
3 SPORTS PAKAGE QAMS
1 WEST COAST PREMIUMS QAM
4 open QAMS
8 HD QAMS

they currently use 18QAMs in dallas for HD

so if they go like socal and north county is going they will only use 5QAMS total for non SDV HD for HD in dallas.

Can you estimate how many qams they are going to use for SDV im thinking 16QAMS

they use at least 10QAMS for the above HD alone.

TWC dallas might not have to put that many channels on SDV.

So it looks like north county has A28 iguide or soon will.

So it looks like DALLAS and LOS ANGELES are the two last major motorola systems to yet launch SDV.

They'll probably reshuffle the QAM's and then put in SDV.

Re: [TWC] New HD channels for San Diego

so your saying that SDV will most likely be in the top frequencies?

also would 16QAMs be sufficient for SDV.

rv65 @ 21st Oct 05:01AM:
Re: [TWC] New HD channels for San Diego

Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on the SDV pool and how it's configured. I think it might be ok. Some SDV divisions have about 40 QAM's in their pool. SDV frequencies vary. It can even be at 54 MHz if they wanted to.

Ex Adelphia is getting a big HD channel add. No new channels for this area but actually the new channels will be channels that San Diego already has. A year ago ex adelphia would get new channels but then San Diego proper surpassed them. Finally they've decided to deploy SDV.

TMC is now included with Showtime. I guess TWC San Diego finally transitioned to the Showtime Unlimited package. My mega charged pack includes all the major premiums so I'm good to go. I don't get any specialty VOD or Disney VOD.

It's nice that TWC San Diego might be getting FSN Prime Ticket HD. Maybe FSN Prime Ticket SD would be nice as well or maybe it's an ex Adelphia thing. Satellite gets FSN Prime Ticket HD but not TWC San Diego. Still want to see better HD channels. Once these channels get added we could start seeing better HD channels.

TWC Desert Cities has FSN Prime Ticket HD. Actually Desert Cities and Barstow customers should chime in since TWC San Diego operates these divisions.

If you're an ex adelphia user who is using a Cable Card TV or a non TA compatible UDCP host are SOL. Cable Card TV users can use a defeatured cable box for HD but no PPV, VOD, or guide. Tivo, Moxi and Media Center PC's can just use a TA. This is the list of channels that are going to SDV in ex adelphia. Ex Adelphia is getting there and will be able to match San Diego in HD channel counts.

Maybe it's been changed slightly again. Ex Adelphia will be getting more HD once they get SDV up and running.

Now you don't have to go to Clairemont or Ware Ct to get a box now. If you call 1-866-202-4222 they'll send it to you next day. Comes with all the instructions and cables. As long as some idiot doesn't hook up his or her HD box improperly. The new Samsungs make it harder for those to hook it up to their HDTV using an RF modulator since there isn't one.

Has anybody in the Ex Adelphia area lost channels and are using 1 way CableCard equipment. Ex Adelphia supposedly went SDV. If you're using a Tivo, Moxi, and CableCard PC you should just go and get a TA. The ATI DCT will get a firmware update sometime in the future to enable SDV support. The Ceton tuner is SDV compatible from the get go and that you only need 1 Motorola TA for the Ceton card since it can do more than 2 tuners.

Re: [TWC] New HD channels for San Diego

A bunch of HD channels are going to be added on 12/8. TWC will also eliminate 6 analog channels in San Diego. Rates won't go down due to having less channels. TWC is giving a free box away for 1 year. TWC won't make these clearQAM but they only hand out HD boxes so you get the added bonus of getting them in HD. A TWC employee wont say which analogs are being eliminated but I think they'll be not as major channels. Plus Digital costs the same as analog. In Some markets it's cheaper to get Digital with a box than analog. It gets more expensive when you get more boxes though.

MSNBC HD
NBA TV HD
ESPN U HD
AMC HD
QVC HD and 5 more HD. Now we finally get NBA TV HD. We used to have it but it was turned off but we had the SD version. San Diego also acquired an ex adelphia area which is why we had NBA TV but not NBA TV HD. I think we'll get G4 HD, Weather HD, WGNA HD and Lifetime HD. All of these are in the legal notice. No sign of BBCA HD :( but it will come later. San Diego is getting there but it will take a while.

Edit: All these channels are coming on 12/8 and not 12/10. All I know is that 10 HD channels will be added on 12.8.09.

Re: [TWC] New HD channels for San Diego

Thats the thing. If your box rebooted because of iGuide A28 then you might have it. SDV is transparent when it works. When it doesn't work it will say Channel not available.

New Legal notice and Hallmark is going to the variety tier on 12.9.09. San Diego will probably get the channels on 12.9.09 instead of 12.8.09 but 12.8.09 seems plausible. A few analogs are getting channel number changes while CMT, ShopNBC, TruTV, Travel Channel, C-Span 2, and ABC Family are going digital. They will remain in their respective tiers but will require a box or a compatible UDCP device with a Tuning resolver.

If your in the ex Adelphia area and have a UDCP Tivo, Moxi, or CableCard PC you'll lose these channels unless you get a TA. CableCard TV's WILL NOT work with these channels since they don't work with a TA. The TA is a Tuning resolver which plugs into the back of a Tivo, Moxi, or Media Center PC via USB. Tivo and Moxi's can be plugged in via USB and Coax. It's a small device and not some large box. San Diego proper has already gone SDV so North County will get it. They're available as of now and are ready to be picked up. You don't have to have a truckroll to have it installed. It's not that hard to install and it should work great.

Re: [TWC] New HD channels for San Diego

Well I got a letter from TWC today saying that 6 analogs are going to digital but remain on the tier. Hallmark is going to the variety tier on CH. 279. On 12.9.09 you'll need a box to view ShopNBC, Tru TV, ABC Family, CMT, C-Span 2, and the Travel Channel. If you have a box, Cable Card, or Tuning Adapter you should have no difference in seeing these channels. XHAS (Telemundo) is going to the Limited basic tier on CH. 20 you don't need expanded basic to view that channel. Originally it was going to the digital intro tier but those plans were shelved.

C-Span 2 is moving to CH 121
ShopNBC is moving to CH. 22
TruTV is staying on CH. 39
ABC Family will remain on CH. 35
CMT is moving to CH. 66
Travel Channel is moving to CH. 69

Comedy Central move to CH. 60
Golf Channel to move to CH. 58
BET to move to CH. 70
C-span to move to CH. 21
Golf Channel HD will move to CH. 758
Telemundo (XHAS) will move to CH. 20

This affects both North County and San Diego. Hope this helps.

Re: [TWC] New HD channels for San Diego

Like I said they'll offer analog customers 1 free HD box for a year to help compensate for the lost analogs. TWC will not move them to a higher priced digital tier. The analogs going to digital besides Hallmark will remain in the expanded basic tier but will require digital equipment to view them. After the 1 year period is up you have to pay for the box. TWC San Diego WILL NOT lower your bill just because you have less analogs. That would be a smart thing but thats not how they do business. The letter didn't mention that but I think that's a plausible offer.

Edit: The free box offer is listed in the letter and you should get on with this offer soon as it will expire on 1.31.10.
