I've got slow speeds all day ... I get home from work at 10 am, one would think it should be better then.

Re: [TW] Ugh! What's with the d/l speed?

it's like that
for me, morning has the top speed, ok in the afternoon, and then drop to as low as 1mb in peak hour. It is pretty much like what you got, but worse.
I just ordered the DSL kit with the 7.1mb service (cause I am pissed off by TW), let's see if the service is fast and reliable. If it can give me steady service, it is actually better than cable. In this case, I may keep the DSL and ditch the cable.

Re: [TW] Ugh! What's with the d/l speed?

Just got off the phone with the fine people at Road Runner, spent about 15 minutes on the phone with a very helpful rep, went through a bunch of trouble shooting beyond the normal unplug/reset router/'puter etc) and ... voila fixed.

File a complaint with the Attorney General, DOITT and the FCC.

too bad
well, as for me, my DSL kit got here today, and the system will be ready next Monday. If the dsl service is reliable, I will probably ditch cable for good.

Re: [TW] Ugh! What's with the d/l speed?

Frustrating as all heck. About an hour after performing a "hard reset" of the modem I go back down to 1000-5000 kbs. I haven't verified but it may be my router that is causing the trouble. :( I just need an entire afternoon to verify.

btw TW will not act unless speeds are below 80% of rating.

Re: [TW] Ugh! What's with the d/l speed?

you can connect the modem directly to the computer if you want to see the router matters or not.
If you router is normal, the test probably won't do any huge improvement.

80% of 10mb (at least for my plan) is still 8mb, at least 6-7 mb, which is an acceptable speed in peak hour. But it is long gone.

Re: [TW] Ugh! What's with the d/l speed?

I switched to verizon online dsl now. The up and down speed is quite constant, no different throughout any time of the day, and I am very happy about it. :)
This is what a broadband service supposed to be like.

I'm glad to see Verizon worked out for you. I will be following in your footsteps. TW has screwed me over the the last time.

Re: [TW] Ugh! What's with the d/l speed?

I have been using DSL for more than a week started 1/12, and it has been stable so far.
Today for some reason the down only got less than 4.5mb. So I go through a common procedure - reset the modem. The down speed is normal again.
The only minor inconvenient is, when you shut off the modem for while, or if you use your own router (like me), and reset router, you will get a new IP.

Re: [TW] Ugh! What's with the d/l speed?

Well after weeks and weeks of trouble shooting I've come to the conclusion that TW knew exactly what was the problem 'cause ... I woke up one morning and all was back to "normal" or close to it. Just out of the blue my speeds are constantly 8000-9000 kb/s.

Frustrating I tell ya.

Absolutely deplorable speeds here in Forest Hills. I went away for a week, come back and my modem is dead, took a few calls and cold reboots for it to work again (very random, never had problems before). Ever since, I'm lucky to get past 1.5mbps, usually I get as high as 10.
