Att yahoo/ dlink router all of a sudden extremely slow!!!

I have a dlink dir655 connected to the from the modem to the main computer downstairs. I use wireless with my toshiba laptop upstairs. It worked fine for months, with excellent speeds, couldn't complain. But, now all of a sudden the internet has slowed down on me. Is there any suggestions on why it is happening and what i can do to fix it. Thanks.

Might try to reboot the modem and the router and see if anything improves. If it does not, might try just a connection to the DSL modem's ethernet port and see if you get a good connection from there. If you do, get a better connection you would be looking at the router as the culprit. If not, you might need a service call. Might also post out in the west forum as well, this one is not watched as much.

I think the forum you want is AT&T West.

First, a little trouble-shooting

I assume that you mean your DSL speed is down on both the wireless connection and on the wired connection? If it is fast on the wired connection, and slow on the wireless laptop, then it may be interference, or something of that ilk on the wireless signal.

Otherwise, as David said, power-cycle the modem (and the router as well)

If that does not help:

Did you try disconnecting the router, and directly cabling in your computer to the modem to see how it performs?

If you regain speed when directly connected to the modem, then it is not an ISP issue, but a router issue (not necessarily "bad", but you may need to do some re-configuration or such).

If your speed is still slow when connected directly to the modem, then you know that it is not a router issue at all, right?

There are a number of points at which you may run into a speed loss, and the first order of business is to try to isolate the problem.

It could also mean that someone has hacked your wireless security and is sharing your internet connection. Sharing the bandwidth will slow it down. Try changing the security key, your ssid name, the channel your using and have the router not broadcast the ssid name. If it suddenly starts working better its because someone was accessing your wireless signal.
