[General] Switching to EL, is this a good deal? Need help!

Hello,

I am new to this forum.
I'm switching from Comcast to Earthlink because the cost of Comcast is going to raise from $19.99 to $42.(after using it for 6 month)

I firstly checked the availabilities of the Internet services with my address on earthlink.com, and disappointedly found that only a 1.5Mbps service was available, which required a one year contract.

Then I chatted online with one of their representitives. She told me that there was another High speed cable service with 7.0Mbps download and 384Kbps upload. It is only $29.95/mo for the first 6 months and then just $41.95/mo after that. Moreover, it doesn't require any contract and installation fee.

This offer is better than any offer I can find from comcast and AT&T.

I signed up that service and the installer should contact me in 3 days, but I am just a little worried if there is some kind of trick. Why this service is not shown on their website? Why the download and upload speed differ so much? (7M and 384K). Since the online representitive did all the process, I didn't get to read any official information about this service. She called it "Best Effort Speeds".

Is anyone also using this service? Please share some experience with me. Thank you very much!

Is this for Earthlink cable or Earthlink DSL?

To Doctor Olds: I read the FAQ, but it doesn't any specific service from Earthlink. Or maybe I missed it. Thank you anyway.

What FAQ did you read? Are you sure you read the correct link? Also, What does "it doesn't any specific service from Earthlink" mean?
