Where did you hear this? I would love for it to be true, but I called TWC and they weren't able to tell me of any new upcoming channels. Furthermore, it's August and nothing has happened, yet. Summer is almost over! TWC's lack of HD channels in Aroostook County is really disgusting.

Re: New HD channels in Aroostook County Finally!

Just so you know, this is a transcript of a chat that I had with a Time Warner rep today. It wasn't good news. I changed the name of the Rep to protect the guilty.

TW Rep: Thank you for contacting Time Warner Cable. At the end of our chat you will be given the option of taking a brief survey. My name is NAME. Please give me a moment while I access your account.
TW Rep: Hello.
TW Rep: How may I assist you today?
Brad_: Do you have any information on when new HD channels will be listed in Aroostook County? The selection currently is very poor and I'm looking at different Satellite packages. If you have any info on upcoming HD channels, it would help me make a decision regarding a potential switch to satellite TV.
TW Rep: I understand you would like to know if we have more HD channels coming up so that you can make a decision as to getting our cable service. Is this correct?
Brad_: No, I currently have your cable service but I'm thinking about dropping it in favor of satellite. I'd like to know which HD channels will be available and when it could happen.
TW Rep: Did you already view the channel lineup in your area?
Brad_: Yes, as I said, I have your cable service so I know what channels are currently available.
TW Rep: I see.
TW Rep: I have checked the information for you now and can confirm that currently there are no plans to get new channels in our line up.
Brad_: Why is the selection of HD channels so poor? Time Warner doesn't even offer the basic channels like FX, Comedy Central, or Syfy in HD. Satellite has a far superior selection of HD channels.
TW Rep: I understand your concern, I will note your comments and forward it to our corporate team and they might look at the line up so that it can be updated.
Brad_: I see. Thank you for your time.
TW Rep: You are welcome.

Re: New HD channels in Aroostook County Finally!

Here's a little further info. Prior to February of this year, I had been a happy DirecTv subscriber for over 10 years. Time Warner had been after me for years to switch because I had internet and phone through them, but I didn't have cable TV. Finally, a local sales guy from the Presque Isle office gave me a good enough offer that I decided to switch in February to Time Warner. I called him, today, and he says that there are a whole lot of HD channels coming by the second week of September. He says there will be over 100 (which sounds far fetched to me, for sure.) I'm more inclined to believe the Portland rep that says there are no new channels coming because the sales guy is, in fact, in sales. Still, I'll stick around for another month to see what happens.

Did mention at all what these channels are going to be and wouldn't 100 HD channels require us to have new boxes?

He didn't know what any of the channels would be and he didn't say anything about new cable boxes. Personally, I don't believe him at all.

I actually am not even using TWC's cable box. I hated the poor performance of the Motorola DVR so I bought a TiVo HD. It is amazing how much better the TiVo is compared to the cable's DVR. Also, when I calculated the increased costs of the TiVo fee and the cables cards, and subtracted the lease of the Motorola and TWC's DVR fee, it actually is a couple of dollars cheaper per month with the TiVo. The only problem is the initial cost of actually buying the TiVo, but it definitely is worth it.

I really hope they come through with new channels, I dont expect to all of sudden have 100 HD channels but even another 15-20 that would give us discovery, science, and things like that. if end up getting anymore info from them post it.

Re: New HD channels in Aroostook County Finally!

I've called Time Warner about this. They always give me an excuse about how the "local community" decides what HD channels they get and prices are the reason why the selection sucks.

Seriously, I know its more difficult to get more HD when you can't just add it to Satellite, but the selection sucks. I'm happy we're finally getting Starz HD and Cinemax HD in SW Ohio, but we could use some more HD on Demand Channels as well as G4 HD..etc.

Well, that's good to hear. I can't say that I'm excited about MavTV, but we'll hopefully see HD feeds of at least some good channels. I'd be happy with Comedy Central, FX, USA, and SyFy. Of course, the networks would be really nice. It seems totally ridiculous that they don't have FOX in HD, considering it's broadcast from WAGM and they have CBS!

Re: New HD channels in Aroostook County Finally!

I moved to the County 2 years ago and was really upset about the lack of HD content. I watched the Superbowl in HD over 8 years ago, yet have had to watch the last 2 in SD, not to mention Red Sox playoff games and the Celtics championship.

I have written over 10 e-mails to TW and always get the same response. We don't know, technology isn't there, etc.

I have really wanted to seitch to Directv and gave TW to the end of this year to have at least my locals in HD.

So it sounds like sometime in the next month. We sahll see.

But I asked the questions and she said no news as of now but they are going to take a service area every week to add HD Channels starting with york. You know where that puts us.

Re: New HD channels in Aroostook County Finally!

I agree that this is a pipe dream. TW has a virtual monopoly because of Dish and Directv not having local channels so they are in no hurry to spend the money to get us a quality product. They will charge us the same though. All I want in NBC/ABC/FOX and I would be satisfied in the short term. TW has agreements with these stations in Bangor. Seems like an easy fix to me.

I also just found out that WAGM owns a cable company in Houlton and that is why they won't agree to be on Directv because it would hurt that business.

I am working on getting Directv and TW has one more month to make something happen

Hopefully you guys get something up that way. Us down south of you (ex-Adelphia areas) seem to getting the shaft. York and Cumberland counties have a whole slew of HD channels, yet they also have a lot of there line up on SDV while we only have a few. I wish they would get with the program.

They had all of us get rid of our Moto boxes after the switchover (sent them up north to you guys maybe?)...so they could get SDV running..and then nothing. :(

Boy you werent kidding! I just checked York counties (non-Adelphia areas) channel line up and they are up to 97 available HD channels...Granted, much of these are the various movie channel feeds..I guess every one counts though! Good luck with that. I tried, but the rules on networks are so complicated and arduous that it is very difficult. You'd better be prepared to loose CBS, FOX, and PBS completely, unless you are willing to install a powered roof antenna to get them over-the-air. And, in that case, you'll be loosing any "advanced" features like program guides and dvrs on those channels. You will probably be able to get ABC and NBC's national feeds from the satellite, but you'll have to wait at least 45 days for the waiver process to go through. Also, they will cost you extra.

Personally, I really don't care about the networks, but my wife does. Most of the shows on the networks are really crappy and the few that I do watch, I'd be content to get on Blu-ray from Netflix. I'm not sure if you are married but, if you are, a happy wife is more valuable than all the HD channels in the world!

Well i have the verdict. Its good news and bad news the good is that we will have 100 HD channels here in Aroostook. The bad news is we have to wait a whole year........told to me by a tech that installed a new service at a friends house. A fiber optic cable is being run up from Bangor to allow us to share there HD channel feeds. So at some point in the near future Bangor will Also have 100 HD channels.

I don't know what to think.

Disney HD
Disney XD HD
ABC Family
Discovery HD
TLC HD
Animal Planet HD
Science HD
Nat Geo HD
Cartoon Network HD

I think I read on here before, at least in Comcast areas, if they keep the system clean(?) they can stuff some channels up just above 750. If it does not go beyond 753, I think it is still 750.
