HP Cable line gear?

Does HP (Hewlett-Packard) make CATV line gear like nodes?

There's one down my road that's smaller than the SA6940 about a block from it. It's white and the housing looks a lot like the ANTEC equipment I've seen in Philadelphia. Looks hard plastic as opposed to metal. But instead of saying Antec on the left indentation it appears as if it has an HP Logo. Looks like optics are going into the unit, along with an RF output. There's a black fiber splice box along with horseshoe to the left of it.

I didn't know HP made optical nodes, but it sure looked like the HP logo on it.

It could be a data acquisition platform for Proof of performance testing, similar to the old Cheetah platform that once existed. Did you notice if it was HP only, or possibly Agilent as well?

My other thought is some sort of Metro-Ethernet device, or possibly a strand mounted EDFA.

Re: HP Cable line gear?

There was another logo along with the HP logo and I think it might of said Agilent. Something -ent anyway, I almost thought Lucent, but no Agilent sounds right.

Your right, it could be a status monitoring device. It has an RF and Fiber in. There are other ports on it but they are terminated. Maybe it gives them the ability to do remote sweeps and status monitoring.

I don't think it's Metro-Ethernet because it's in a residential area. Although there is a day care across the street, I don't think they would need Metro-E, and the lines coming out of this device didn't appear to connect to there, but who know's, it's all lashed together up on the strand anyway, it could traverse and come in underground, but in that area I doubt it.

As far as a fiber amplifier, well I guess that's possible, but I thought fiber could go 40km before amplification. Were only 10 miles from the hub site if you go the long way through the city. There is an SA6940 node a block southeast from this device.
