Frequent drops in Sanford

I'm experiencing frequent drops lately with my standard Bright House Road Runner connection, typically about once an hour. Sometimes more sometimes less. There is no real pattern after a few months of this. I had a line tech come out and check things and replace some cables, tech support does not see any issues either. I replaced my broadband router switching brands while I was at it. I've requested a new modem and also purchased a Motorola Surfboard to rule out possibilities. Nothing seems to solve the issue however.

Every once in a while I happen to catch the cable modem rebooting, which I can only assume is what always happens to cause the outage. My best guess is there is a problem with the power levels. Can someone verify this for me? If this is the case, what is my next step?

Thanks!

Re: Frequent drops in Sanford

I am experiencing the same issue in Casselberry after a very stable setup for months with a new router. Brighthouse wants to blame my router but I see the cable modem reset and go through self test. This is a replacement modem I got from the local service center to see if it was the old modem. I need some ammunition when I go back to tech support to disuade them from it being my internal configuration. Again, had no problems with the existing router and configuration for several months and now see problems with drops. It is very prevalent with the PS3 because my son's online gaming dies very quickly with slight drops in the network.

cableguy: Thank you for taking the time to help. I was hoping this thread would catch your eye. I really appreciate you checking into it.

dadio: I feel your pain man. It's pretty frustrating.

The problem seems to be much better today and I may have some useful information. I was checking all the settings in my router just to make sure there wasn't a problem and the modem decided to reboot again. I had noticed last week that even after changing cable modems I kept the same 65.x.x.x IP address. Just for kicks I decided to release/renew the public IP the router gets from RR. I fully expected to get the same IP but to my surprise it was given a 97.x.x.x address. That doesn't seem to be a big deal really but it's interesting to note that my connection has been rock solid for hours since. Is it possible they re-IP'd the network a while back and the system kept rebooting the router when it noticed the old IP in an attempt to force it to the new IP scheme? That's all I can come up with, either way it does seem much more stable today.

Same problem here in Winter Springs. I lose activity atleast twice a day and have to reset the modem manually or it wont come back at all.

Eh. The problem ended up coming back. I switched back to my old modem given that.

Re: Frequent drops in Sanford

I've been having this drops for several months after 5 years of pretty good service, with BHN here in Winter Springs. The few times I've pinged CS they "check" the line and proclaim all is well with the modem and it must be my router. However, when the drops occur the modem loses connection to the net, tries to sync for a little while then goes dark. Swapped out the modem and that didn't make a difference. Finally said the heck with it and since AT&T offers UVerse here I went for it.

How is Uverse? I've been thinking about that myself.

Re: Frequent drops in Sanford

I'm on the border of Lake Mary and Sanford, and I'm experiencing somewhat frequent drops in my Road Runner service. Usually several times a night. When it is working, I'm usually not getting the 11mb + advertised for Turbo. Especially at night.

I've been working with Brighthouse now for 2 months, and they have been unable to resolve the problem. They're about to send the 6th tech out to my house next week. I feel like I'm wasting my time dealing with them. But, we have no Uverse here and the best option is 6mb DSL w/ AT&T.

The Techs found some issues with my cabling the first few visits, and now that they have been resolved, they always proclaim everything is operating normally and do nothing. I've had Bright house / Road Runner for over 10 years now, and I know this is NOT normal.

I'll take any advice I can at this point to get it resolved.

Re: Frequent drops in Sanford

I am having the same disconnects in Winter Springs about every hour to two hours. I have had RR installed for a year without any problems and this all started for me about a week ago.

Re: Frequent drops in Sanford

Maybe it has something to do with the recent trouble BHN has had over the past couple of days....

Re: Frequent drops in Sanford

Hey Yingling, UVerse is fine. The TV is great. Still working on the internet side. They can't get me above 6Mb so far. Connection is solid though.

Strange how so many people are STILL having those dropouts. You can always tell them you got hit by lightning.

Re: Frequent drops in Sanford

ie last night it was dead from 1am to 9:30 am

then it died again today at 10:30 till about 11:00.

im going to compile a report and hope that i can get it to some one who can help me. i had a few techs come out they say no problem to be found.
