[Internet] Brighthouse Tampabay bandwith usage

I just upgraded to rr turbo 15/2 about two weeks ago and I do alot of filesharing (uploading/downloading). Has anyone ever had issues or has anyone received notices/emails from BH about excessive bw usage? If so, what was the bw used? Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

No, not ever in 10+ years with Roadrunner and since becoming Bright House Networks in 2003. And I do a lot of transferring.

I've had some months of very heavy downloading and never heard a peep from them. Don't know about heavy uploading; never tried that-- not that "heavy" uploading is even possible over 512k speeds. ;)

I have been with BH for 10+ years as well and I do allot of downloading and allot of uploading.

I have a six machine home network with all computers in use and my son runs an Internet Radio stream 4 hours every day.

I have never had a single complaint.

I have a friend who has managed to transfer terabytes of information in a month's period and not had any issues.

Relax guys.. There's plenty of bandwidth to go around. They only get antzy with people who try to run web servers.

What were the times of each test?

Have you tried to run a pathping?

Info can be found at this post:

»[Internet] RoadRunner Tampa Bay slow?

Also I checked the RR website to see if there were any outages or problems reported during tha last few days and to my surprise I found that RR is NOT served by Brighthouse in Orange City, FL.

Your ISP is Time Warner.

Perhaps you would get more in-depth information on your particular problem in the appropriate forum for general RR problems.

Most posters at this forum have TW as their ISP.

Best of luck,

Ummm... just curious... how is it that you managed to go from nearly 5000 ms of latency and almost zero upstream at 4:16 GMT, to 73 ms latency and full-normal speeds just 2 minutes later?

If I didn't know better, I'd say it looks like you intentionally sabotaged the first test. I can think of several ways to accomplish that. (1) Plug a patch cable into two ports on the same switch, causing a storm. (2) Start many simultaneous uploads with many threads each-- like doing a 20 thread Usenet upload, plus seeding Bit Torrent wide-open, plus a few FTP uploads, etc., leaving essentially no upstream bandwidth available for a single-threaded speedtest app. (3) Enable QoS or other packet shaping to starve bandwidth from http connections. (4) Run a traffic generator to temporarily DOS your own router. (5) Other favorite method to starve the speedtest of bandwidth.

Then you turned off the badness and re-ran the speedtest a second time, which resulted in 100% normal speeds for a 7/512 connection.

I wasn't there so I don't want to wrongly accuse, but something smells fishy. Perhaps you'd like to shed some light on it?

Re: [Internet] Brighthouse Tampabay bandwith usage

my bad, im actually in the palm coast area, and i should have started a new topic but i didnt and so for that i am sorry...
we have the 3 in 1 package from bright house.. here is my line quality test. »/linequality/7···/2560019

and here is my ping path

i do have wireless but it is heavily encrypted with a 38 character TKIP WPA password so i don't think that is the problem.

i ran both just in case, it only does this when i download a torrent file, my traffic is encrypted, i have peer guardian as well. i will start downloading something and it will just move from under 100 ms "like 54ms" to 'day 4000+ ms/night 2000+ ms'.. i even have a video of the pings via command prompt if anyone wants me to upload it xD , no i do not use Usenet, and neither do i use ftp. i didn't do option #3 and #4 is really stupid "not calling you stupid i'm just saying the option is stupid" and i'd rather not starve myself of bandwidth, i'm only 19 and my mom works from home, why would i screw up her job? i called brighthouse and i went all the way to level #2 tech support, but gave up they where telling me it was spyware and or a bad networking card or my "history" in Firefox causing the trouble for all three computers here at our house.. when ever i download something i can barely go over 100 kbps because of the throttling, it is crazy! ive uploaded two video's the same lenght "7:06" one is a .avi file and one is a .flv file the flv is 6 MB "converted on media-converter.com" because super 'latest build' was giving me trouble for some odd reason.. and the .avi file is 2.88 MB if you take a glance at both of them you can see the quality difference but you don't have to look at both of them if you don't want to. anyways the video show's my ping time when i am uploading less than 50 kbps and downloading at an astonishing rate of *gasp* 9.4kbps anyways here is the video's mind telling me what you think?

Re: [Internet] Brighthouse Tampabay bandwith usage

Maybe I missed it -- and it would take some planning on your part -- but have you 100% proved your own equipment to be good? The reason I say it would take some careful planning, because you said your mom works from home. You need to do all of this while plugged directly into the cable modem. To ensure it is NOT spyware (or anything of the sort) try with two diff computers.

As for getting a "you've chewed up to much bandwidth" notice. Nope, and there are times when my 15/2 connection just hasn't been enough. Granted I had 5 or 6 devices nailing it hard, but never a peep from BHN.

Re: [Internet] Brighthouse Tampabay bandwith usage

yes, yes i have. i have a fresh reinstall of ubuntu on my external and when ever i download a torrent it starts to do what was in the video. we have a brand new acer mini laptop and i have to download a vista recovery disk .iso torrent on it, it started there as well. it has to be brighthouse, i don't take security as a joke, that's why i have the 38 char password for my dd-wrt firmed router. i even have a second router that i have tried and tested, it's the same.

Re: [Internet] Brighthouse Tampabay bandwith usage

But he's asking.. Did you do the very basics? Did you plug the computer directly to the modem. No torrent programs, routers, antivirus, spyware programs etc...? Then run a speedtest to »speedtest.cfl.rr.com/ This will isolate you from your extra equipment and bad internet servers. This will determine if the problem resides on the CFL network. Also be sure to try a second computer strait to modem and run a speedtest again. Then go here »192.168.100.1/ and give us your signal levels.

Re: [Internet] Brighthouse Tampabay bandwith usage

I wish i had signals like that. Now how about disconnecting your router hardware and other background software and run your computer connected strait to the modem? I don't see where it says you did that one? Could you run that test and do another screen shot of »speedtest.cfl.rr.com
