Right now they're using the SA 8300HDC and 8240HDC in the SA area. San Diego also has a Moto area which uses Motorola boxes. The non DVR in the SA area is the SA4250HDC which might still be handed out.

I get a better HD Pq on the 3050 then I had with the 8300 HDC. No update on the 3090 boxes yet for SI . AS far as I know, the 3260 and 3270 boxes are not coming to the NYC Area. Only the SA 4250, 8300 HDC and Samsung 3050 and 3090 boxes are in NYC and thats what is being used

The 3270 is no longer being deployed for now. There is a serious issue with the VOD and they're now working with TWC to get it fixed. It will be available once it's fixed.

The 8300HDC will continued to be deployed until the 3270 gets fixed. TWC San Diego is working with TWC corporate to get it fixed ASAP. It's said to be a temporary delay but it could take a while.

twc dallas rep said that starting in october samsung boxes are being deployed in north texas. I take this with a grain of salt as he said the model number was DCS3200 which doesnt exsist. Also he said all motorola boxes were being discontinued. I highly doubt this because they just launched the DCX3200 and DCX3400 just recently why would they deploy the boxes and discontinue use of them in 3 months. This doesnt add up.

I do have some odd redirects in the HTML Code of my site but I can assure you there's nothing malicious and its only because of the limitations of a home server running Windows XP. And also it stopped on this site here so it may be something before it ever hits my server such as the service I use for a URL, DynDNS.com to be exact. It redirects several different URLs to the same IP so not sure if that has to do with it.

Whatever. Is running a server on a residential connection OK within the Terms of service?

For safety reasons, I will be taking the site offline again and as soon as the problem is solved (the virus doesn't SEEM to have been transferred onto the new Windows XP install) so as soon as I remove that line of code from all pages, site'll go back up and I'll post here. Just got a 3270 and well it looks like a larger 3260 with a REC light and a USB port. It has a 320 GB Segate HDD. Same one as the 3090. I have this new mega charged bundle for 2 years and I got all the premiums VIP pack, 10 MB internet, 2 HD-DVR's, and 2 HD boxes for $33 less than what I'm paying now.
I have all the digital packs minus Spanish which I have no interest in.

Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
The 3270 came with a notice saying that it's ready for the DTV transition and that it lacks an analog tuner. It's still hooked up to a SDTV. I haven't recorded anything on to it but I should start shopping for an HDTV for that room. The nice thing is the 320 GB HDD. An HD-DVR should at least have a 320 GB HDD since 160 GB isn't enough.

My other 3260 said mOCA which means that a Multi Room DVR is a possibility. I should record some shows on the 3270. I hope to get another 3270 for the main HDTV since it's easy for us to max out the 8300HDC.

Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
The 3260 and 3270 boxes run Linux. The 3090 also runs Linux. The 3270 manual has a GPL public statement. It does have some Open Source code but has proprietary software that isn't covered under the GPL. That code has to be closed source due to CableLabs licensing. The 3050 runs vX.Works and uses a different architecture. The 3090, 3260 and 3270 boxes are all Broadcom based. BCM chips are pretty awesome when compared to the SA designs. Plus the 3270 has a 320 GB HDD. I'm pretty happy with mine. The 160 GB 3090's can be upgraded to 320 GB. The 320 GB Seagate Pipeline HD unit works in a 3090 and it's the OEM 320 GB drive. I haven't recorded a show on it but I'm looking forward to saying goodbye to my 8300HDC running ODN which doesn't have enough storage for us.

It's better since it has a 320 GB HDD. It's actually a cost reduced 3090 with a slightly better CPU. It has no Coax audio or S-Video.

The 3270 also uses FW v4.2.2.3 instead of v2.4.9.3. The 3260 also shares the same software as the 3270 but is smaller and lacks the DVR function. The 3260 also lacks an eSATA port though there is a SATA port on the mobo.

Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
Having ODN v3.1.3_2 is a good idea since it helps fix the Samsung issues. NYC and Charlotte were sticking to ancient versions of ODN which caused the most bugs with the 3090. San Diego originally got SW v4.2.2.2 with ODN v3.1.3_2 but then they deployed v4.2.2.3 for the 32xx boxes.

Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
The 3270 lacks PIP and only has 1 buffer so you can't swap tuners. The BCM7405 only can do 1 HD feed and 1 SD feed in PIP mode which is why PIP wasn't included. Other than the PIP and tuner swap I still think it's better than the 8300HDC thats on the main TV. I like the 320 GB HDD which can store a lot more shows than a 160 GB HDD. I can easily max out a 160 GB HDD.

Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
You can use eSATA but the guide software has issues with it. No you can't plug it into a computer to access the recordings. It uses a proprietary FS and all the recordings are encrypted. I bet the FS is also encrypted.

rv65 @ 21st Oct 05:30PM:
Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
Also the recordings are tied to that DVR. Same with the FS. It's probably a proprietary encrypted FS that no computer can read.

So, I won't be able to move the external hard drive to another DVR if the H3270 DVR dies? This happened to me with the previous DVR, had a couple of shows I wanted to keep that were lost because the DVR wouldn't power on anymore.
reply
rv65 @ 21st Oct 07:19PM:
Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
No you can't move the recordings to another DVR. It's tied to the DVR due to licensing and content providers. Tivo for some reason offers digital copies but if a channel is using Copy once or copy never then you can't record it. You can still do a real time recording of those shows.

Re: Roll out date for the Samsung H3260 and H3270
The 3270 has done well in our household. I've seen a few missed recordings but it's generally reliable. The REW and FF algorithms do take getting used to as they are slightly different than the HDC's. It's a smoother FF and REW but you don't want to jump to far as it can take you to an area that you don't want to. I guess Navigator or the Samsung OS REW and FF algorithms to leave a lot to be desired. ODN is getting some updates which should hopefully make this a better DVR. I do love the 320 GB HDD though.
