Problems sending to medium size mailing list
I am doing some free work for a local church (actually two in one location). Each has separate DSL service from ATT in fairfield county connecticut.
One of the admins complains that she is unable to send church mailings to more than about 10 people at a time, then gets an error.
Ok, I know I should tell you the error, but I have not seen it and the admin just says "error"!
This is outlook express.
Just thought I would ask if anyone has any quick knowledge of techniques to send out batches of email. Is this a block by ATT, or likely some configuration error on our end?
thanks

How many people are you sending to at a time?

Re: Problems sending to medium size mailing list
They would like to hit about 300 per email. So they batch in in groups of about 10-15 and it seems to work.

Re: Problems sending to medium size mailing list
Are you using @sbcglobal.net or @att.net? If so, I think there's a cap of 30 recipients per mail. I am in several active mailing groups of twice that many people, and uses Yahoo instead, which seems to allow more leeway for a web based mail client for mass mailings than GMail, or Hot Mail. I would consider opening a Yahoo account for this purpose.

Thanks. I am not sure which it is, and will find out tomorrow. Trying to get them to switch to yahoo would be impossible (every tried to get an admin to do something new?!).
They want to switch to optimum (Cablevision) which is a great idea, but there are some cabling issues that are delaying the process.

If sbcglobal, try smtpauth.sbcglobal.net, port 587. It has a much larger limit (don't recall what it is, but try 100, go up or down depending on results).

Re: Problems sending to medium size mailing list
I think the limit's a 100 addresses per e mail on the client side if using Outlook Express or Outlook.

Re: Problems sending to medium size mailing list
FWIW, I just loaded a 66 entry address book into Thunderbird three times w/o a problem - probably more than most ISPs would accept.

Re: Problems sending to medium size mailing list
Try Mass Mailer software. One could send e mail to thousands of recipients in one click. It's called Mail Boy Mass Mailer, and this is freeware.
