Re: 40-50 ms to first hop

What kind of modem or modem-router do you have?

Re: 40-50 ms to first hop

How long did you have this modem? It could be that the modem is old and is not holding synch as well. The Linksys WRT54G router is one of best one could get.

Re: 40-50 ms to first hop

I believe I got it about 2 years ago. It was actually a replacement for an older westell that wasn't working any longer. Besides the bad ping times my download speeds have dropped as well. It won't download any faster than 99kbs it was downloading at around 170-200 kbs before.

Re: 40-50 ms to first hop

You should set the modem to do the PPPoE if its not currently doing it, remove the router and check the ping times and speeds using the modem alone

Re: 40-50 ms to first hop

I would do what Wayjac recommended first. If the times doesn't improve, reset the modem. Was the Speedstream purchased new or used?

Re: 40-50 ms to first hop

Well I plugged straight into the modem and had the same results. Any clue why it's doing this? Maybe they took me off of fastpath?

The modem can show if its fastpath or interleaved
Your dsl can be set to interleaved
It's more likely that dsl line conditions forced a change

Ok att came out and fixed the problem. I guess they said my wire was disconnecting from the box. I like to go back to fastpath is there anyway I could do that?
