Westell 7500 unable to use static IP's

I just recently got a Verizon Westell 7500 modem/router.

I can get online with it in both router mode and in bridge mode(with a Linksys BEFSR41 V3).

My problem is, I can't set any of my computers up with a static ip. As soon as I setup one of them with a static IP, in either configuration, they loss all internet access.

Is is possible to setup computers with a static IP behind the Westell 7500? I ask because I know that static IP's work with my Linksys BEFSR41 when used in conjunction with my old modem (Westell 2200).

I would prefer to use the Linksys, but at this point I just need to get static ip's working period.

Re: Westell 7500 unable to use static IP's

I ended up figuring this one out via trial and error.

For future reference.

I had to set my DNS server in the tcp/ip config to the same ip as my gateway(Linksys router)
Then within my Linksys router I had to set its DNS server to my modem's ip. (Westell 7500)

Westell 7500 ip: 192.168.1.1
Linksys BEFSR41 ip: 192.168.1.10
Windows IP: 192.168.1.103

Windows Settings Example
IP Address: 192.168.1.103
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.10
DNS Server: 192.168.1.10
WINS Server:

Router Settings Example
Static DNS 1: 192.168.1.1

This is of course with the Modem in Bridge Mode.

Re: Westell 7500 unable to use static IP's

I wonder whether the Westell 7500 firewall was blocking DNS? Perhaps turning off the 7500 firewall might have been an alternative solution.

It is off actually. well the option that says no security. I didn't notice an actual "Disable Firewall completely" option.
