Need some assistance----
My PC is missing-
It seems it made it to my nephews dorm over the weekend! I now have, at home, a Motorola DSL modem (bridge mode) with a Netgear router....I've a new PC coming in a few days---Here's my question---How do I setup the new PC for internet access...I'm now working from a laptop via wireless....I was reviewing the FAQ sections and came away confused....No laughing now....
Do I simply plug in the Netgear router to the new PC or is there something I need to do "first".
Do I need to initiate a PPOE setup on the new PC.....
This new PC will have XP PRO sp3 (Vista down grade)as the OS.
ISP is SBC- I don't have a setup CD for the DSL modem.
TIA-
LOU
PS- I hope you're not laughing too hard!!!!!

Yes, you may plug the router directly into the new PC using the plug that had formerly plugged into the old PC. The new PC ought to detect the network connection right away or RSN [real soon now] and let you know that there is a network connection available.
You will not need to initiate a PPoE setup on the new PC unless this is the setup you'd had with the old computer.
You will not really need to use that SBC setup CD.
If you have set up DHCP you may have to adjust things a bit since the clients may have been set up by MAC address and you may have to delete some of your assignments. Or you can set new ones, if you wish. You may also have to reset some of your port assignments (if any) if you do this.
But, basically, if you just plug it into your network as you'd had it before it ought to acquire an Internet connection right away. Most modern computers are very network aware.

Your NIC should detect network straight upon connecting the internet connection from your router to the PC.
