Things supporting the New Insight change.

In the past many of us have been able to "get heads up" about what the changes usually are. (like when the 20.0 service came to be). So maybe some of us can put some ideas up and maybe see what we have.

I know for some time ive been getting around 30 on the 20.0 service as shown here. However this could be the limit of DOCSIS 2.0 (which I think is what about 38Mbps)

Ive also seen theres a second commercial saying lots of new options out as well. So maybe .. something similar to A-la Carte. (which we hope has LOTS of HD)

Another thing was many of us got new firmware on our DVR's recently and that seemed pretty widespread.

So what else to do have that might show some more stuff going on. Anyone else got anything?

As for that download speed you are correct in saying that the maximum download speed is ~38Megs or so, but my modem is synced at Docsis 1.x and the revision between the two is a higher upload speed on Docsis 2.0. I still don't have the firmware update on my cable box yet but I am keeping my fingers crossed. So hopefully everything is going to come together at the end. I am just excited to see more HD channels, and something like a 50/20 tier of internet service would be awesome. Come through for me Insight!

Personally, I think everyone's getting a little over-excited over nothing. I think it's just the service packaging changes and that's it. If there were new HD channels coming, they would have said as much (how long did they promo for the last HD channel update before it finally happened? Months?)...

Well our whole deal is, that most of the competitors in the area are starting to catch up to Insight so they need to make some more changes to get back on top. With Uverse coming in and Windstream offering a fiber optic based service I think they are planning on making their footprint stronger and adding more HD channels. Now granted that is what I think they are doing, but I am not running the place.

I would like to see some good ole DOCSIS 3.0 information (and upgrades) starting to roll in! :D

I love my Windstream 12MB and Dish Network HD packages... but this hype from Insight has my attention and I would definitely consider paying ETF on my Dish contract and switching. The "HD is included with digital" was almost enough, but that combined with a DOCSIS 3.0 internet package may well do it. :D

Plus the whole thing where almost all the UK football games are going to be on ESPNU now, and Dish doesn't carry ESPNU in HD and they only have the SD on the Gold package.

The dvrs need a new and improved user interface and guide. The current tv guide gets the job done but a new and improved guide would be such an improvement for the dvr service.

Since we are talking change and some people think this means more HD channels, which is what I am hoping, what channels do you think they will be? In the Columbus area, Insight offers The Speed Channel, CBS College Sports, WGN America, Encore HD, Outdoor Channel, BIO HD, Disney XD, Cartoon Network, Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Network, and Planet Green. Most of these channels are only offered in the Columbus area. Since Insight has already signed a deal with these channels, it would just make since that they would spread them out to their other service areas. I for one would be very disappointed if these were the channels that were introduced. Where is the Golf Channel, or Comedy Central. So many good HD channels out there. What does everybody think?

I agree with that, I don't really have a problem with the guide per-say but the stupid thing keeps recording shows whether they are new or repeats. I have it set to record New shows only, but what always happens is they will play the 4 episodes before the new one to fill up time and catch people up I guess and the DVR will record them all and fill up. At that point it is pretty much useless. I also tried setting it to delete if space is needed and for some reason it always seems to delete the new one. So I just keep a close eye on it now.

Re: Things supporting the New Insight change.

I dont think so, not untill the D3 rollout will they dare do that. What i see happening is trying to provide the most value for your buck. How many years have we've been paying 16/mo for the hd/dvr and only had a sprinkle of hd programing? Only now have they addeda bunch, and not making us pay a 10/HD fee (minus for the few channels in the hd pack). I think they are doing that not only because they have the cash from us paying that all these years, but to try and provide more value. Now when they roll out D3, something that Columbus wont get till TWC/RR does it, since we use the RR system, vs the outher markets having the HSI all in-house, will they be able to justify a HSI rake hike. Perhaps Insight will finaly bring Columbus in-house with the HSI/BB 20.0 finaly providing unifority among all markets in product offerings.

Re: Things supporting the New Insight change.

It will be interesting to see how Insight will deal with the D3, ( like they going to give us modems or we get our own etc). I brought a RCA modem off insight years and years ago it had heat issues and seem to fail alot. They even exchanged it (at my house) with the same problems. I went and bought me a Motorola SB5120 and the difference was night and day.

So cost will be a big factor for us and insight.

Re: Things supporting the New Insight change.

My modem went out not to long ago and I asked for a D3 modem the tech told me "No" but when Insight switched over I will be able to trade out with new modem.

It wouldn't surprise me if that policy changes.
