I did find other online retailers who offer the same product and don't have the "not for sale in California" clause, so I contacted their support/sales folks only to find out that the same regulation applied (but wasn't mentioned on their sites):
Does anyone know what particular law prohibits the sale/import of this product in California? I have to assume based on the consistency that it's an import and not an export law.
If no one knows, would mailing our local state reps (Paul Fong and/or Elaine Alquist) provide me with answers, or would I be contacting the wrong people?

I am not sure of the specific legislation involved but that these products have PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) I'm pretty sure is what the restriciton is about. replyGbcue @ 18th Sep 02:09PM: Re: Strange California import regulations
It's probably about the VOC content (the PVC). replyninjatutle @ 18th Sep 06:21PM: Re: Strange California import regulations
Its due to the amount of lead in it. Buy a Goretex and you wont have to worry about it. replywilbilt @ 26th Sep 11:50AM: Re: Strange California import regulations
Gas cans, weed wackers, lawnmowers and now rain gear.

Tell me about it. If you've got a tier 0 engine you are essentially being told to leave California next year if you want to keep using it. Tier 1, 2, 3 are Ok of course. replyRR Conductor @ 1st Oct 04:49AM: Re: Strange California import regulations

Yes, but look at where we are going. More and more ridiculous regulation. -- We were taking a vote when the ground came up and hit us. replyDOStradamus @ 13th Oct 10:25AM: Re: Strange California import regulations
Think the looney-left State Legislature could be worse??
Sure can be! Replace them with the Sebastopol City Council, and you'll get wi-fi gear on that list!
