mail config question
Well, it looks like there were some mail server changes, I was using smtp.snet.net with no auth for about 6 years till last saturday. it started asking for auth, so I configured for that and then got a service unavailable. Same for smtpauth.sbcglobal.net.
Looks like the old mail servers were taken down??
I switched to smtp.att.yahoo.com and then got the following email:
Important: Verification Required - Action Needed
Something about sending from a non verified email address (I do use my company email as from address).
Anyone know how I can verify email addresses, I have about 4. I'm all for fighting spam, and it looks like while inconvenient this is what they are doing...
Help.

I don't think so. There are still a handful of legacy users who haven't migrated, and for whom the Yahoo! servers will not work.
However, from time to time, things go awry on the legacy servers. For the longest time I was using 'mail.pacbell.net', with SMTP AUTH, until I started logging AUTH errors:
So I switched the host name from 'mail.pacbell.net' to 'smtpauth.sbcglobal.net', and email started to flow again.

The maximum number of verified email addresses, per account, or sub account, is ten. The instructions are here:
»help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/o···-07.html
You will not be able to send email from another email address until you receive the verification check, and activate it.

Hi, Norman - Considering moving to the Northeast ?
Had a weird one recently - was playing with smtp servers using my normal address, and got the verification bit. Got the verification e-mail (twice), but the link gives a cutesy message "Oops! Looks like our servers are taking a break. Please try again later. (Error: #77315)".
Any idea if this might indicate a problem of some type, or whether I should chalk it off as a one-time glitch?

From the "frying pan" into the "fire"? This "Left Coast" is already farther left than I am comfortable with. I think the only place I'd really feel comfortable in is some parts of Qwest territory! :(

Possibly a one time glitch; but Opera doesn't seem to play well with those Yahoo! web servers. About the only way I ever get things working well is to allow all cookies all the time; and even then, things can be balky. Yahoo! sells "eyes" to advertisers, and wants a browser which will bend to their will, not my will.

Re: mail config question
Well I had a config that worked for a long long time without change, maybe the servers were flaky but I couldn't send mail for days. Seems to have stopped around the 11th-12th. That was smtp.snet.net with no auth from my home dsl. I am a "migrated" legacy user.
I switched to the smtp.att.yahoo.net with auth, and followed your instructions for verifying email addresses - took it a while to actually sync. But now all is good. I am under 10 addresses so that limit works for me. Thanks!
