Re: Modem Purchase..
Please see this page for the list of currently supported modems: »www.suddenlink.com/support/cable-modem/ The most common ones used are: Ambit U10C018, Linksys BEFCMU10v4, Motorola SB5101 or 5120, and the Toshiba PCX2600. Once you get your new modem, please call us and have the modem handy; we'll need to know the serial number and MAC address of the modem in order to allow it access to the network.
Personally, I have a Motorola SB5120 and have been very happy with it.

Re: Modem Purchase..
I switched out an old Motorola for a 5101 and could only get dial-up-like speeds. After a couple of calls to tech support, the rep noticed that both modems were still in the system. He removed the old entry, I rebooted and all was well.
Just citing this for general info.

Re: Modem Purchase..
Been using the Toshiba PCX2600 for about 5 years now and never had a single issue with it. However I think I read somewhere that Toshiba is supposed to stop or has already stopped manufacturing cable modems, so I'm not sure I could really recommend it.
One of the other issues with this modem is that it disables its web diag interface when attached to SL. If I'm not mistaken you have to actually request that SL enable it through a config push.
SuddenlinkTX or JoshN, do either of you know if the Motorola SB6120 is supported or usable with SL?

As you probably already know, the Motorola SB6120 is a DOCSIS 3.0 compliant cable modem. You're not currently registered here on dslreports to have your city shown, so I don't know if you are in a city whose network is upgraded to the point of being able to utilize the downstream capacity that a DOCSIS 3.0 modem can support, but even so, the fastest speed we currently offer in any market is 20 Mbps. With that said, DOCSIS 3.0 modems should be backwards compatible with earlier DOCSIS versions and be able to work on a 1.1 or 2.0 system. If you're in the market for a new modem, there's no reason to not buy it; you'll just be prepared for when the system is upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0. However, if your current modem is operating without a problem, I wouldn't recommend buying a DOCSIS 3.0 modem just yet.

lazl0 is from Greenville, NC. I really don't know when Suddenlink will deploy DOCSIS 3.0 in Greenville, probably when the rest of the world has DOCSIS 5.0????

I totally agree with you; svjks. I live in Bastrop, LA. I asked the girl in the Suddenlink office the other day about the rumor I had heard about them rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 in this area before the end of this year. These people are clueless. Everyone in the office wanted to know what that was. :p
I was explaining it & they still didn't get it. But after that; she did say they were planning on upping speeds before the end of the year. So it looks as though the rumor is true. And we only have 2 technicians I will allow to come to my home for anything. They are the only two that know what they are doing. It's really a shame. I'm thinking. They don't have on the job training or anything like that??? Ridiculous.

I am in the SL Cabot Arkansas area. I am using the new Motorola 6120. SL in my area is not DOCSIS 3.0 but the modem still works fine.
