how do you do a DHCP "release" on the NBG420N
I just recently picked up the NBG420n. i need to be able to "release" the DHCP WAN IP. I don't see how you do this via either the web interface or telnet. Even my 6 year old $30 D-link that the zyxel replaced had this from day 1.
I can change the DHCP setting to a static that I make up, but this doesn't actually issue a "release" to the DHCP server to give up that DHCP address.
what am I missing?
(also, it would be great if they could add in the ability to log DHCP request traffic to the WAN ... to me this is more useful than what's going on w/ the LAN side DHCP)

Wild guess since I don't have the device on hand, try telnet:
"ip dhcp wanif0 client release"
If wanif0 is not the correct interface, check with: "ip ifconfig".

Why do you want to release the lease. Is it to get a new IP?
Have you looked in the logs to see the DHCP activity. You may have to turn on the log feature in the settings tab. My Zywall 2 captures the DHCP renewals, both WAN/LAN in the log.
update:
According to the documentation on you router, it will log new IP asigments on the WAN I/F in the form of:
WAN interface gets IP:%s
A WAN interface got a new IP address from the DHCP, PPPoE, PPTP or dial-up server.

"ip dhcp wanif0 client release"
i get "Iface not found"
i tried the same thing w/ ifconfig in front (ip doesn't seem to be on the main list of commands) and no dice there either
there is an "ifconfig ip" command but i can't figure out what the sub commands are ... typing "ifconfig ip [anything ? etc]" doesn't pull up anything for the list of commands for it, only for "ifconfig" itself...
:(
...as far as why I need to release the IP, my cable modem provider is locking the IP to the wrong mac and they insist that if i did an actual release the dhcp addresses would straighten out. to me this is debatable but i can't prove it without actually doing it...

actually you're correct, it does log when it gets an IP ('WAN interface gets IP: 157.5x.xyz.asdf" ...
what i'm wanting logged is really when it DOES NOT get it, and the DHCP errors that might have come back. and ideally it would be nice just to log the simple "dhcp request sent" ... but if an error code comes back, it doesn't seem to be logging it... windows "ipconfig" gives more detailed information than the zyxel logs...

I don't get it. I thought my posting was clear.
What is the output of the cli command:
"ip ifconfig"
(omit the quotes).

ip dhcp enif1 client release
did the trick.. though what my cable provider was saying was incorrect (not surprised though)
