Here is my original post in general forum:

In a nutshell, be careful about placing checks in your mailbox. If you live in Union CIty, Fremont, Milpitas, maybe even San Jose, some perp named "Joshua Brenes"(the name he wrote on my check), took my check to my CC company, erased the Pay to orderline and my original amount, cashed at a BofA in Milpitas.

Don't be stupid like me, pay your bills online or drop at the post office.

Happens all the time, and also very common to steal the whole box when you reorder new checks.

Get a locking mailbox for incoming mail. Both Lowes Home Improvement and Home Depot have models with security features.

Never leave mail in the box for outgoing, use bank online bill payment or drop the mail in the Post Office itself.

If ordering checks, make arrangements to pick them up from the bank branch directly vs mailing them.

This is why I got the heck outta Fremont and never looked back. Fremont has been going further down the drain.

You should also check with the local postmaster. Call 1-877-USMAIL5. Also order checks with Ez Shield. You can order checks with it at walmart.. »www.walmartchecks.com Only cost an extra $2 box for the insurance.

They will do the following:

Forged signatures* - Legitimate checks that are forged with the account holder's signature, as the payer, that results in a debit to your checking account.

EZShield Check Fraud Protection does not apply to a check that bears a legitimate original endorsement that is secondarily fraudulently endorsed.

Altered checks* - Legitimate checks that contain altered information such as the payee identification, check amount, or that are otherwise altered to benefit the party altering the check.

Ha... checks???

Try EVERYTHING stolen from amil boxes in Concord... CC, phone & bank statements... bills of every flavor. Incoming money and gifts etc etc etc.

My Daughter and son in law have had their identity completely reamed from the mailbox AND the replacement ID stuff too. It has been going on for a year, there has been FOUR arrests already and it is STILL HAPPENING... another attack a few days ago.

Now she has her mail on vacation hold at the post office... hoping a PO box will open up... yeah right, not going to happen and you can't keep your mail on vacation hold forever... luckily the Post Master at that branch has been pretty understanding so far with an extention or two.

I really shudder to think (seriously) if I caught someone stealing mail... anyones mail.

All my neighbors would be on camera/TV saying... "I would have never imagined him going this far... seemed like such a mellow guy, I hope he doesn't stay locked up too long"

Definately going to hear it from someone on that reply... "you shouldn't say that because you are SUPPOSED to be a CHRISTian... blah blah blah."

It's not common up here in Redwood Valley, that sort of crime, and crime in general is pretty low here. We've never had anything stolen from our mailboxes, nor has anybody in our neighborhood. We put things out in the mailbox with the flag up all the time, trust me, people would notice some stranger driving by and snatching mail out of boxes. I hope they get it solved and fixed soon Peggy!

It happened to me. I just received a piece of mail that was originally sent nearly a year ago. It had been held as evidence in the prosecution of a USPS employee who was working at a mail facility in Marysville.

Apparently, he was taking mail into the bathroom and opening it, looking for (and stealing) cash. I suspect he had been doing it for a while, due to the birthday cards my kids never received the previous year.
