[ALL] It's the 29th, do you have the new speed?

I'm here in Las Vegas, and I'm still downloading at 12mbps. When is the speed upgrade supposed to happen? Anyone else not in NV got the new upgraded speeds?

Reset the modem and still no speed upgrade here in Lafayette:

The upload is skewed by the boost, it's still at about 768kbps after it.

and, the "have areas" are already @ 3 megs up so, that's not really a news story, having the have nots up to 3 megs up in premier would be kinda cool, i think it happens tonight, so reset your modems tomorrow folks and i repeat to ALL.

if a cox employee would like to correct me please do so, but, from what i read, it looks like we all get bumped nationwide.

the next upgrade after this won't happen till D3 rolls around, hopefully cox will think twice before making 'net too expensive for those of us on fixed incomes

Per the story:

quote:
Update: "Northern Virginia just happens to be a DOCSIS 3.0 market but the Preferred and Premier speed boots are independent of that fact," Cox spokesperson Gwen Sparks tells us. "Speeds are actually set at the local market so timing of any speed increases varies," she says. "Some Cox markets increased speeds earlier this year and others are launching higher speeds later."

For those that don't know, using sites likes Speedtest.net will give you the powerboost skewed results. Use the "Sun Java plugin" speed test under the tools section of this site for an accurate test. Basically, it doesn't allow powerboost compression.

I have a premier connection and can't get an upload speed greater than 1800, yet my connection is in a D3 area (North Phoenix).

I've run some of the java speed tests listed on the site, but I've found the most reliable speed test (for me) is the ones at UC Santa Cruz and Stanford University. They appear to give me the closest to advertised speeds for my tier.

Re: [ALL] It's the 29th, do you have the new speed?

Still at a crappy 12mbs here in Vegas after a modem reboot.

It kills me that NOVA and LA of all places get everything first. We need some sort of FTTH here in vegas as Cox and Embarq are way behind the times.

Back when I worked at the TOC for Cox PHX, NOVA, and LA were our worst markets as far as the network went, Yet somehow they manage to be the first with tier rollouts. :uhh:

Re: [ALL] It's the 29th, do you have the new speed?

I like my Cox service, but 12 Mbps is too slow when we're paying the same price (or near) for Premier as your other markets that are receiving much higher speeds. The state of internet in Vegas is horrible. Embarq/CenturyLink doesn't invest in anything worthwhile (watch out Vegas, bonded ADSL lines coming your way!!!!!), and Cox just holds back speeds because they don't need to compete.

I wish Verizon was here.

False advertising Cox should have said only people in D3 areas will get speed increases...... :hmm:

quote:
Cox says they're now boosting the speeds of their Preferred and Premier broadband tiers starting September 29. According to Cox, the company's Preferred tier will be increased to 15 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps upstream.

I never get good results there. aren't those servers only T3 lines? hard to be accurate if more than one client is being tested at a time[even without powerboost]

The test actually gives better upload than I get normally. Highest I see is a little over 100kB/s when uploading via FTP (the server isn't the limiting factor).

Re: [ALL] It's the 29th, do you have the new speed?

My speed increased from 12mbps to 15mbps sustained. I now have 3 channel bonding and cap out at around 80mbps with powerboost. My upload has also increased.

I only got the speed increase by having a tech come out and bring my levels to "docsis 3.0 spec" according to him. The signal apparently has a tighter range.

I'm happy for 46.95 per month.

Re: [ALL] It's the 29th, do you have the new speed?

I'm on the Preferred plan with an old Linksys BEFCMU10 v2 modem.

Tempe, AZ
Download Speed: 7408 kbps (926 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 469 kbps (58.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 33 ms

7.41 Mbps up
0.47 Mbps down

I'm wondering if I should upgrade my modem, it is a rather old DOCSIS 1.1 modem. Or should I hold out for Cox to send me a new one (If I could be so lucky).
