[CATV] Alternate college football games on ESPN?

Why is it that we never see the alternate ABC game on ESPN like we should? Every week ESPN News runs on ESPN instead of the game that it should run. In fact, not 15 minutes before the game on ESPN, the announcers made a specific point, going so far as to show a map of game coverage for the entire nation showing which game was going to be broadcast on ABC (Penn State at Illinois for us in Evansville) and which game would be broadcast on ESPN (Florida St at Boston College)... 15 minutes later, yup, all we've got on ESPN is ESPN News. Why the heck are we getting blacked out on the out of market game? Anyone from Insight have any answers?

FWIW, I am in the Chicago area with Comcast and we had almost the same situation. Our local ABC station had PSU/IL game, ESPN-HD showed ESPN New-HD, and ESPN standard def channel had the Florida/BC game. IMHO, it's the people working at the cable companies not giving a crap about what network feeds they send out out to their subscribers.

Interesting, and actually, I was talking about the HD channels. I don't even check the standard def channels anymore. I'll have to look next Saturday, though the standard def ESPN broadcasting the right feed wouldn't make me feel any better...

The games are on ESPN or ESPN2 in standard def. I once heard why the reverse mirror game isn't shown in HD, I don't remember any longer, but it's not an issue with Insight. I know I'm not being that helpful, but I just wanted to let you know it isn't Insight's fault.

This happens every week yogi, and it drives me nuts. I'm with you, I never check the SD channels either. I know exactly what coverage map you're talking about ESPN showing.

No offense, but I have an extremely high amount of difficulty believing that this is not Insight's issue. *Maybe* there's a technical issue, but that doesn't mean that it's not in Insight's court.

I'd absolutely love to hear from Mr. Meltzer, SVP of Product Management, regarding this issue...

What is below is from hdsportsguide.com and their mention of the games for September 26. I'm not sure of the protocol here for posting links, so I'll just post an excerpt.

This week the reverse mirror will be on ESPN which is a change from previous weeks. What is not different from previous weeks is the fact that because of the contract that the Big Ten has with ESPN the best game of the week will be in standard definition unless you live in the viewing area for that game.

So, what you're saying is that because of the Big Ten, ESPN couldn't show the Florida State/Boston College game in HD on ESPN? I'm still not clear on what a contract could say that could prevent an alternate game from a different conference from being broadcast in high definition on a cable channel... I'll have to do some digging tonight and see if there's any more detail on this... Thanks for the info...

FYI to anyone following this thread. Interestingly enough, a Big Ten Game was broadcast in HD on ABC this week, and the alternate game *is* being broadcast in HD on ESPNHD. I don't know if it was a wild coincidence or what, but if not, thanks to whoever read this thread and got things straightened out.
