[help] Need help tuning my connection.

Well first off here are some tests i did. I have Elite service. And this is a wireless laptop. Download was always much closer to 5k. or a little above.

DRTCP.exe will not let me change my tweak settings. I set DRTCP to default settings. But nothing happened. I'm going to reboot my modem.

Still can't change the tweak settings.. oh well this will keep me busy for a while. Not sure what to use in window scaling etc. I'll just try at default. Speeds have gotten worse though. Download speeds are down to 2400.

Mods can close this. I'll take it to the tweaks forum if i can't figure it out.

Re: [help] Need help tuning my connection.

As I recall, the tweak settings for SNET > SBC > AT&T DSL vary according to whether you're RT-fed or CO-fed. If you're CO-fed, try RWIN of 63888, scaling off. If you're RT-fed, the RWIN number is usually a lot lower. I've seen people on RTs use values as low as 17424 for Elite.

Thanks.. yes your right i remember that now to. I'm on RT now. I used Tuneup utilities to customize settings on the laptop and now it seems to stay that way. DRTcp isn't able to change them it seems.

Consensus on tweaking Elite RT-fed is between 20000 and 29000. Try 26136 for starters.

Your issue with DrTCP might be related to some Windows security fixes. If DrTCP doesn't work, try Cablenut.

Ok thanks.. that Cablenut program helped a lot. Unlocked something anyway.. and was able to make changes..

Getting better

But i think ATT has throttled back some. I always averaged 10k more downloading on my wireless laptop at home.

Re: [help] Need help tuning my connection.

Try the Speakeasy NYC test. I think there are some issues [capacity? packet loss?] with the NJ test. I have the equivalent of Elite service [resold Covad 6016/768]. I couldn't get the NJ test above 1400 down earlier today. I get around 4500 down on the Speakeasy test even running the test through a remote access window from work. You should get between 4900 and 5100 downstream from properly tweaked Elite service.

Re: [help] Need help tuning my connection.

Yes testing a few times today gave me 4900 at speakeasy ny. Latest one here
Last Result:
Download Speed: 4925 kbps (615.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 653 kbps (81.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

I was just using Cablenuts preconfigured set up. I may join there forum to see about tweaking further. Thanks for you suggestions DrStrange.
