stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

I'm in Elmira NY. Internet connectivity gone this morning, but then had a tech reboot modem. After that Internet connectivity back, and what seems like higher upload speeds. Before they were about (less than) 512kb/s. Now upload is about 970kb/s or so. Download seems faster too, although I do have turbo and sometimes I got as high as speed below, but mostly it was 12mb/s to 15mb/s. Now it is normally around 17 to 19mb/s.

Just wondering when and if there was a speed upgrade.

Re: stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

Turbo has been raised from 8/512 to 15/1
I believe the upgraded was done last night.

Speeds are slower on the down and the digital phone is breaking up. I will wait to see if things clear up later.

Re: stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

Did the standard tier also get upgraded? I noticed while downloading a file last night that it stayed at ~8mbps throughout. Powerboost would only give a short burst of higher speeds, but this seemed constant.

The phone started to work properly after a few hours, the speed is where it should be now.

Nice steady and fast download off of this test site.

Re: stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

Standard speeds were either upgraded to 10x1, or will be upgraded shortly.

Re: stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

It only took them 4-5 years to catch up Stny with the surrounding segments and we get to thank TWC for being cheap and / or the simple lack of competition. Maybe areas like Rochester or Syracuse will now get 50/5 and leave us in the dust again :)

Fyi, a friend of mine in Corning ( area code 14830 ) is on standard and has received the upgrade to 10x1.

Overall, though I am grateful we finally received an update.

Re: stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

So is turbo at 20/1 or 15/1 ? It's hard to tell if powerboost is still there now or not. I've seen it go over 15 at times.

I've been using the TCP Rwin setting of 64240. Is that still good for 15 or 20/1 or should I tweak that a bit?

The way things are going for obama a second carter term might be his best case scenario.

Re: stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

Cool, thanks for all the input.

Hmm, now turbo and non-turbo seem to have same upload speed? It would be cool if they could give turbo customers at least 1.5mb/s up or even 2mb/s up..

Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy they upped it to 1mb/s up, but it seems like if you pay more, you should get a little more on the upload. Still, 512kb/s upload blew chunks for uploading pics and whatnot, so this is really a huge improvement already.

It's slow as hell now.. Can barely get 10mb/sec download.
Anyone else seeing this?

It would probably make you sick to know I can run just a bit above cap anytime. I have no idea why but for some reason where I live I never experience any of the problems others do with RR and I live out in the sticks outside Syracuse.

Re: stny.rr.com speed upgrade?

When I lived in Buffalo it was like that. Pretty much 20/2 all the time. Actually here it isn't usually too bad, but tonight for some reason it is slow for sure.

I'm on a different system than(edit) you though. I'm thinking I should only compare to other people on STNY.RR.

Are there any other Rochester folks here. I think time warner is slowing things down to make you buy turbo. What a crock.

Yes... we're here and we have several dedicated regulars here who are in Rochester and watch TWC like a hawk. Stopthecap.com is also headquartered here and I keep an eye on happenings around here as well.

I've noticed we ended up with a new IP address the other weekend after a network reset of some kind and had a bit slower responsiveness since then, but I already have Turbo so I am thinking they are not purposely messing with speeds. If you see dramatic speed drops, much more likely is you have a connection on the pole or home that is not moisture-proof and it needs changing. Or squirrels are chewing again. I'd call 756-5000 and ask them to do a remote test on your modem to check signal levels. In the past, that has almost always resulted in identifying a bad fitting or cable that needs replacement and they'll take care of it. These problems always seem to show up most in the spring, but fall is also a common time of year for issues to show up.
