X-550N Bandwidth MGMT
I need some help with entering the values. The upload speed of my WAN is 768Kbit/s but it won't allow you to enter decimals. I don't want to limit anything, what values do you recommend for the LAN and WLAN?

Re: X-550N Bandwidth MGMT
Just noticed that it's missing the "Upstream Bandwidth" options in Bandwidth MGMT > Advanced. Also, there's no way to specify min and max bandwidth on a rule. :o
The firmware is the newest V3.60(BFD.2) | 03/11/2009. Anyone else noticed these?

Re: X-550N Bandwidth MGMT
Bytezboy, this really annoyed me too. My cable connection here in Oz has a miserly 256Kbps upstream. There are plenty of other low bandwidth situations like this.
The first version of the firmware let you specify upload speed in kbps. There was also an option that let the router measure the uplink speed for itself. Then they changed to this.
I mailed Zyxel support and they confirmed that the minimum speed cannot be set below 1 Mbps. Their response was that they were not inclined to change it back because 'most' people had 'at least' this much. Yet if you look at some of their products released since then, their bandwidth management starts with 128 kbps. Go figure.
By the way, the latest international firmware for the NBG460N (identical model, different name) works on your router but the setting remains the same. 1 Mbps minimum.
Luckily you can get around this with Telnet. Log in to your router (the default address is 192.168.1.1), enter your password, and then type:
BM TBR WAN SET 768
(the 768 could be any other number - it's a measure of kilobits, so in your case say 768). It works!! Just don't change it on the web configuration afterwards - it'll still have the old value there but when you check the bandwidth management monitor, it shows the correct bandwidth. I tested it to make sure by flooding my uploads with torrents, and then making a VOIP call. Sure enough it throttled the torrent back to allow VOIP enough priority. Eureka.

Re: X-550N Bandwidth MGMT
Dandemon thats one of the reasons the X-550N/NBG460N series (zyxel firmware) is better than the older X-550 (OEM) because you can use telnet and make these kind of changes. Not for the novice per say, but there are lots of experts who can point one in the right direction. In other words if there is a gui command there is often more fidelity in the associated telnet command structure.

Re: X-550N Bandwidth MGMT
I can see the truth in that now Anav. The web UI is just a fancy way of sending commands to the command line interface. In fact some underlying features, like the auto bandwidth speed test that was taken off the web UI is still available if you telnet in. It's still broken (not accurate) but there it is.
One bummer I discovered is that if you change anything in Telnet, and then change any related setting (not even the same one) via the Web UI, all the web ui settings will overwrite the telnet ones. I changed a QoS setting for torrents, for example, and the upload bandwidth setting reset itself.
On that issue, Ronald Rodriguez from Zyxel mailed me today saying:
"The X-550N can only do bandwidth management in Mbps, a feature update was entered a month or so ago so that it is done it Kbps. At this time there is no update as to when or if it will be implemented to later firmware release."
