Awful wireless speeds with X-550N
I replaced the x-550 xtreme mimo with the x-550n and now the wireless cannot sustain 17Mbit/s. With bandwidth management enabled, it won't even reach 10Mbit/s. The router is on the latest firmware version. Signal is 95% with the default settings. Maybe I overlooked something?
This is very disappointing after reading many good reviews. The xtreme mimo seems so much better now.

Which firmware are you using? Certainly does not seem normal at all.

Tested it on 2 different laptops running on a wireless G client with the same results. I tried many combinations with the configs above but it doesn't help much either.

I cannot recall anyone else reporting those issues at least with latest firmware. Did you call tech support (800) 255-4101 ext 5.

Not yet, I got this router during the weekend while the tech support is off. Too bad I don't have a wireless N card to test with.

Re: Awful wireless speeds with X-550N
Also noticed the VPN connection to my server on my wireless laptop disconnects quite often, at least 10 times a day. :(

Re: Awful wireless speeds with X-550N
I called tech support, they sent me a beta firmware but it failed to load properly. At this time, I've given up on finding a fix. It's going back to Amazon.
The x-550 xtreme mimo is still the best router. Thankfully, I still have it.

BYTEZ,
As I wrote in an earlier thread,
the firmware takes a LONG time to load. Count on 5 minutes.
When you start the upload on the web page, just leave it sit, it looks like it is doing nothing. In about 2-3 minutes it will start uploading, this is a known issue with the firmware.

That's not the issue here, I'm no amateur when it comes to updating firmware. :)

Re: Awful wireless speeds with X-550N
Yeah I liked the old X-550 unit; I am now using the Netgear WPN824 for deployments since I too have seen the X-550N do some weird things....
Quick question: Does the X-550N have the N running on 5Ghz and G/B on 2.4Ghz? Is it dual-band or does it share a band (it's been awhile since I have played on the X-550N)?

There is another thread here which noted issues with intel or ralink wifi chipsets.

It's 2.4 Ghz only. Having said that, I changed to the x550NH from a dual band (Dlink DIR-855) because its wireless performance was absolutely horrible on both bands. Better off with one band done well.
Re the OP: wireless performance on both G and N is superb. They're all Apple clients, which I believe means Broadcom chipsets. No issues with those.
