[DSL] Upgrade, anything I can do?

Hi,

I just upgraded my line to the 6MB offering from 3.0 I receive about 4.5MB but was told that I should expect the line to drop and to not be able to reach 6MB.

I guess this question comes up a lot but is there anything I can do? I read it takes 10 days for the modem to get accustomed.

Can you test my line?

Should I downgrade my line or just stick with the less than ideal upgrade? Is there anything I can do to fix this or help attain the higher sync rate or keep the rate without fluctuation?

Thanks!

Hi J2theA -

Is the 4500 rate what you are getting when you run a speed test or the rate that your line is currently in sync at. Keeping in mind that there is typically about 20% overhead on the line, most 6000/768 packages will get a download rate around the 4900-5200 range. If you are getting lower than that it may be because your line isn't in sync at the full rate. I would recommend ensuring that all of your phones are properly filtered and ensuring that you don't have any devices connected to the line that don't have a filter on them.

Thanks

Hey George,

4500 is the rate that I can maintain sync, it appears I cannot sync at the full rate. I have filters on everything. I was told I was too far from the CO. I was wondering if there was anything else I could do.

Thanks for responding.

Do you have access to the box outside your house? If so you can try connecting the modem there to see if your sync rate improves. If so a NID splitter may help boost the sync rate slightly as sometimes inside wiring degrades line quality. If you are too far from the CO to hold the full rate unfortunately there isn't much that can be done though.

Thanks
