[DSL] Line not synching at full 3008 Kbps

I've noticed that for the last few days my line has not been able to synch at its full intended speed of 3008 Kbps - which it was doing before without any problems (except for my prior issue of the DSL line disconnecting when the phone was off the hook, which was fixed by the removal by ATT of the phone company's MTU circuit board from the NID box at the demarc point).

Currently my line is synching at 2048 Kbps. The cable from the NID to the DSL modem is CAT3 two-wire standard phone cable, and the filter on the line is also good.

Any ideas? (We did have a rain storm here in the Bay Area over the weekend, might the electromagnetic energy from the storm or wet NID connections be the culprit?)

Hi g0nepostal -

A line getting wet may be the culprit. I assume you have tired a full power cycle of the DSL modem and that the sync rate didn't increase. If not go ahead and give that a shot first.

Do you have access to the NID/MPOE? If so can you try connecting there to see if there is any difference in sync rate. If not we will want to open a ticket with the Telco to have your line tested.

Thanks

:) Ah! I didn't think of that (connecting directly at the NID). Yes I do have access to it. I'll try connecting the modem directly at the NID tomorrow and will advise.

Oh, I have tried several power cycles of the modem. Each time the line synchronizes at 2024-2178 Kbps. 2048 is the most recent number since the last power cycle I tried yesterday.

Cheers!

Back at full speed!

:) I powercycled the modem and made sure the line filter attached to my phone's base station was securely plugged in; I am now back to full speed.
