Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
After a long hiatus, we're happy to announce the release of Tomato/MLPPP v1.25-mp3alpha6. This release brings us up to date with the latest build of Tomato, and makes some other minor fixes. The most important one is an update to the default LCP settings that should significantly improve stability due to incorrect settings used in alpha 4 and 5.
Download
Grab it from »fixppp.org
Known issues
* UPnP does not work at all with 1:1 NAT. This will be fixed by the first beta of mp3.
* The PPP bundle will occasionaly stop accepting IP traffic when reconnecting a line to the bundle. We're planning to have a workaround for this at the very least.
Changelog
* Fixed a typo ("dissabled by user")
* Updated base Tomato to v1.25
* Fixed the default LCP settings to avoid excess disconnections
* Added a system to allow updating settings the first time a new version is booted
* Added an override to change users' LCP settings on first boot if they're still using the alpha 4 defaults.
Future Plans
Forgot to update this in the documentation, here's the correct list:
v1.25-mp3beta1:
* Add a watchdog for the dead-link issue to at least maintain connectivity
* Fix UPnP with 1:1 NAT
v1.21-mp4:
* Add UI support for three or more modems
* Make the behaviour when a dead link is detected configurable; either wait for the remote end to identify a dead link and degrade to one line, or immediately rebuild the bundle, changing the IP in the process.
v1.21-mp5:
* Try to do sanity checks on invalid external 1:1 NAT IPs

Sweet. Not sure if I'll update now since it's been up since the TSI usage meter went down and it's got all my usage tracked since May. Bah I'll probably go for it anyways, I can't resist updates. :P
BTW, what are the new LCP default settings? I ended up using Echo Interval: 10, Adaptive Interval: 0, and Echo Fail: 12 to keep it from dropping.

Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
5/0/12. That should lead to roughly one minute to detect a connection (or, ignore connectivity issues less than one minute long, such as a resync).
Your settings would require about 2 minutes to detect a disconnection.
We added the forced update of the LCP settings (only if your settings match alpha 4 defaults) because we know that, no matter how much we say it, people rarely reset their NVRAM like we tell them to. Some even back up their config, reset, then restore their config, which UNDOES the reset. Sigh. Luckily, our forced update should be able to handle that.

So I should record all of my settings and reset the NVRAM. I have way too many settings now (wireless, QoS, DDNS, etc.) I was hoping to avoid putting them all back in again. :/

Awesome news.
Just to make sure: for my ASUS WL-500gP V2 router I need tomato-ND.trx ?
Also, is it fine if i reset the NVRAM but load up settings from older tomato?
It would suck to redo all the QoS filters.
Thanks again for the awesome work.

Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
Looks good so far. The route modem IP didn't work at first but it does now. Ewww, I forgot how ugly the default red colour scheme is, the blue is much easier on my eyes.
Clusty, it says in the readme and Guspaz said in this thread that reloading an old config negates the NVRAM reset and makes it pointless.

Guspaz @ 16th Oct 02:15AM:
Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
If you're upgrading from mp3alpha4, there is no direct need to reset the firmware (although if you changed the LCP defaults, you may want to fix those).
However, we still always recommend nvram resets. Just like reinstalling Windows, the occasional nvram reset does you good.
Also, most of the time, an nvram reset *is* required between Tomato/MLPPP versions.
EDIT: Actually, since we're taking you from Tomato v1.21 to v1.25, an nvram update is *probably* required for stability.

Startup LED options removed from GUI. You can still enable LEDs at startup by adding any of the following lines in Admin:Scripts:Init:
led amber on
led white on
led aoss on

Just got a WRT54G yesterday and running it for the first time tonight, making sure it works as-is considering where it came from. Of course I want to get Tomato on it right away...it'll be my first use of a router with Tomato (been using the software MLPPP option built-in Windows with a direct modem connection).
Would you guys recommend I start by flashing with alpha 6, or stick with an older "stable" version?
Also wondering if holding down the reset button for 30 seconds actually cleared out the NVRAM (there's a factory reset option in the menus I noticed).

well upgraded but i had to trash all my settings :(
After update from previous version it would show that it is connected to the net (pppoe) but I would have no internet.
Ohh well. Now I gotta figure out those pesky QoS settings all over again.
Is there a way how I could read the old conf file? (plain text dump)

Well, went ahead and decided to jump right in with this update, it appears to have flashed OK and working! (I'll have to wait until after 4pm to see if I'm still throttled or not...note this is the first time I'm using a hardware-based MLPPP option, or even a router for that matter).
What's more cool is this WRT54G looks to be alive and well (glad I rescued it from being sent to the recycling plant!).

Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
I normally take screenshots of the relevant sections and then recreate the settings. Although I'll often avoid doing NVRAM reset to try to test the worst-case upgrade scenarios, or to test the cases where we give explicit instructions on what to do if you don't NVRAM reset.
Unfortunately, when the base Tomato version changes, we can't really do that, since there are many changes out of our control.

I just upgraded to this new version. But, I found I am not able to access most websites except very few ones. Then I disabled MLPPP and everything works well again. What's the possible reason? I have reset NVRAM and recovered all settings manually.
While I couldn't connect to a website, I can still ping it or tracert it.
I am with Velcom by the way.

Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
Sounds like an MSS issue... When you say restored all settings, you don't mean the config backup, right? That undoes the reset.
Try doing an NVRAM reset and the only setting your username, password, and MLPPP dropdown.

What's MSS?
I just did this and it worked. Then I changed option one by one, so far it's still working. :) I have not input my QoS settings yet.
At the first time, I did this:
1. Upgraded from 1.21mp3a4 to 1.25mp3a6;
2. reset NVRAM
3. change options manually.

My modem wasn't accessible right after putting it into the route modem IP box either. It started working later after I put in more settings and tried it again.
Maybe a reconnect (or reboot) would get it working? If I recall it's a 'WAN Up' script so I'd try a reconnect first.

I'm not keen on upgrading cause the initial flash was a bitch, I know most here think its peanuts and so did I before I actually did it but for some reason the router I got doesn't like change and defaults to german which complicates things for me.
Is there a valid reason I should upgrade, if I'm only using this to enable mlppp and nothing else ? I've never had any issue and I don't need or use any special settings, qos, or anything else that tomato does.

400 connections seems like overkill. Try limiting your BT client to 200 global. You won't notice any difference in speeds especially on a 5mbit connection.

I am not sure what the 1:1 NAT issue is? Does it work or not if I have TekSavvy's extra pool of IPs, so if I have the first static IP which is assigned to my PPPoE login and then I purchase an additional pool of 2 or more IPs will Tomato support this?
Also can I take the other IPs and assign them to local IPs on the router itself?
example router:
IP: 10.0.0.1
GW: 255.255.255.0
Internet IP: 76.120.xxx.xxx
Pool IPs: 76.149.xxx.1/2

Aiee, segfault! You should probably report this as a bug to the developer
every time i try to login to the router through ssh.
maybe the /etc/dropbear/dropbear_rsa_host_key is corrupt, it seems 1 byte shorter than in the 1.25,specifically its missing the the two "==" at the end of the key.

Awesome, now I can test out the TCP Vegas feature and see if it ends up working better than QOS.
Thanks again for the great work guys, keep it up :D

Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
Since alpha version 6 is my FIRST EVER use of Tomato, you'll have to bare with me, as I have nothing to it compare against. I'm solely using it as a means to circumvent throttling here.
Just started noticing I'm getting very poor performance (in some cases I'm still being completely throttled on some torrents) when connected to my WRT54G. Interestingly, when I bypass it and do a direct modem connection and use Windows built-in software MLPPP option, everything works beautifully...torrent speeds are optimal and there's no sign of being throttled.
Is there some option I've missed in the router setup? After installing alpha 6, all I did was set MLPPP to 'single link', nothing else. I heard a mention of QoA, should this be enabled? (in my settings it's currently disabled).

I don't know what is happening but it is not "being throttled". If Qos is disabled it should be fine perhaps Guspaz might have some ideas.

Upgraded.
Everything's working fine thus far.
Thanks for the hard work to everyone involved with this firmware. Without it, I wouldn't be with Teksavvy.

What's MSS?
I just did this and it worked. Then I changed option one by one, so far it's still working. :) I have not input my QoS settings yet.
At the first time, I did this:
1. Upgraded from 1.21mp3a4 to 1.25mp3a6;
2. reset NVRAM
3. change options manually.
I have the same problem as Redfox, when i run in single link PPP, my web browsing gets slower and and websites are page cannot be displayed. If i turn off Single Layer PPP, the issue goes away. I configured QOS and my router as per »mlppp.teksavvy.com/tomato_sl.html. What can I do to fix this?
I have Velcom, too.
Thanks!

That setup was specific to Teksavvy as I remember. Leave MTU and MRRU in "Automatic". And LCP Echo Interval should be 5, LCP Echo Adaptive Interval: 0.
I am with Velcom and don't have any problems.

Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
Perhaps you're using an application with broken upnp support?
The upnp daemon changed (as in, completely different) in alpha 6 (mainline Tomato changed it), but we don't have any patches for it at the moment (haven't ported the 1:1 NAT UPnP stuff over yet).

Re: Tomato/MLPPP v3 alpha 6 released!
Any chance of integrating the fixes from the beta 1.26 versions of Tomato?
Some of the updates look relevant to the cause (i.e. updated miniupnpd, busybox etc)

No. We will never merge beta code into Tomato/MLPPP. It's a recipe for disaster.
