[IA] Slow MAX Speed in Altoona, IA

First off, I want to say that I have been a Mediacom Internet customer since at least January 2000 and I have been a MAX customer since it was released. Like everyone else, I have had issues with speeds over the years but I haven't complained, as I'm not much of a complainer. But it has now gotten to a point that Mediacom is not providing me with a specific service that I am in return paying them $75 a month for.

I'm currently trying to relax at home and stream a Netflix movie and my MAX connection can barely keep up. Of course, I have done everything that I usually do: power cycle modem, power cycle router, ensure no other devices are connected to network connection. And no matter what I do, my MAX connection is barely getting a 2MB DL on the test:

Is there something that I can do or someone that I can call and complain to or am I S.O.L.?

Your signals look ok. IM BAINCH to check the utilization of the card you go in to at the head end. My guess would be over subscribed neighborhood.

Is your service always that slow or does it get better early in the morning?

It used to drop at night like everybody's and then come back during the day. But within the past month, it will only speed up to about 5MB during the day and nothing more.

Just ran a test at noon today and was shocked that I actually got up to 9MB!

z0rdell, if you send me a DM with your acct #, i'll take a look at the utilization and email the Area Tech Supervisor asking the head-end tech to fix!

Don't bother with BAINCH, he'll never get back to you. You're basically stuck. I've been dealing with this for 2 months now. I got a call from a supervisor one day telling me they wouldn't send any more techs out because there wasn't a problem.
I asked if they could check the node saturation and he said it wouldn't do any good because there's no way he could check to see if my entire neighborhood was hitting the same website at the same time.

As soon as i have rerouted my e-mails for a couple of months, I'm going to QWEST.

I hope (crosses fingers) all problems will be fixed once they release D3...

z0rdell,

I spoke with the Director of Technical Operations in your area and he says they're working to fix your speed issues. Once I have a definite answer as to when it will be complete, i'll send you a DM.

Thanks for choosing Mediacom, we truly appreciate your business!

Are they also working to fix the issues I've been having for the past 2 months?

(Yes, I'm bitter).

You do realize that BAINCH is a high-level employee New York right? He like everyone else on this board is volunteering their time to help each other out yes, I know it's frustrating but sometimes you just have to have patience.
What are your signal levels?
Do you have a router? is it a home router or a custom one?

The fact that he is a high level employee in New York and volunteering his time does not invalidate my comment. He did not ever get back to me. Asked me for some info and then nothing.

We've already been down the road on my signal levels, router etc. Per the regional tech supervisor my signal levels are fine and the bandwidth tests are the same with or without my router inline. The techs and CSR's I've talked to have been nice, but that supervisor was an a**. They know they've got me over a barrel, but he was the first one to really act like it.

Try contacting MediacomJoel He is a new poster on here however, reports based on what I've read seems to be a Customer Service representative that cares. :)
