Please Wait (on screen)
Last night while we were watching television(here in Queens, NYC) we got a large "black box" on the screen with the wording "Please Wait." We could still see the program on either side of the "black box,, and could hear the sound. Turned off the TV and then turned it back on (switched channels) and "black box" was still there. We telephoned TW and they said if had something to do with the 'signal.' I asked if I was the only one experiencing this and they said "No, if you are seeing it, others are also seeing it." But the young man could not explain further.
The "black box'" went away in about 15 minutes, and we were able to see the program on the full screen. This is about the second time this happened in the past week. Both times the TW rep said something about signal strength and looking for a better signal.
(One of our neighbors said she had this happen when she switched to Channel 1 and she had pressed the "start" button, but we were not watcfhing Channel 1.)
Anyone elese see this "black box?"
Alice
(My box is SA 4250 HDS, but I've noticed other boxes mentioned. Quite confusing and 'scary.')

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
Does anyone know what is causing it or why it is happening or if it will ever be "fixed?"
Quite frustrating when no one at TW can offer definitive answer.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
They did update ODN to v3.1.3_2 in your area. I also have ODN v3.1.3_2 but I don't get it that often. My cable signaling is also quite good yet I still get that.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
Thanks.
Please, what do you mean by:
"They did update ODN to v3.1.3_2 in your area."
Is that good or bad? How would it affect us in this area?
(AFAIAC: TW reps not too good and do not know too much about their services, etc. Other folks have told me the same thing.)

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
The updates are usually done really early in the morning. It's usually fine except the box is turned off after it's been updated. It's just a bug fix update though you can find out by pressing Select until the mail light and then press down on the remote to find out what ODN version you have. v3.1.3_2 is the latest version.

"you can find out by pressing Select until the mail light and then press down on the remote to find out what ODN version you have."
"I press the Select (blue) button until the "MAIL light"
and
"then press down on the remote"
What does that mean please = "mail light" and "press down on the remote"?
I press the "Select" and nothing happens!
I am new to this!
Thank you.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
The mail light is a little light that flashes on the box. It's actually called the message light. Then you press the down button the remote. You need to hit select until the mail light turns on then press the down key to access the menu. It's a 14 page menu.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
Thank you.
Maybe my box (SA 4250 HDS) is different from your box. I don't see a message/mail light mentioned on my SA box.
On left side of box I see some buttons: Power; Vol; Ch+, etc. And on right side of box some more buttons: Guide; Info; Exit; and Settings (but on lights are next to them).
Am I supposed to press the (blue) Select button while the TV and box are turned ON? Should it be only in Channel 1?
When I go to Channel 1, there is a pop-up that says something like "Start Over," and it has an image of the (blue) Select button.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
I got rid of my 4250HDC but this is the method.
Press the Blue select button until the little mail light flashes which you hold it for about several seconds. Timing is the key. Then press down for a few seconds or until the box says dIAG. It will then load a diagnostic menu that mentions your software version. There is also another menu by pressing Vol+ and Info on the box's front panel but that doesn't list the ODN version. It does however list a lot of technical information.

The WRC is what I call real racing with real talent except for Loeb!!! :)! Watch it on HDTheatre.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
You learn when you have 2 boxes stacked that it does go into diag mode when off but not sure if it actually outputs the video though didn't need to check.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
I don't have 2 stacked together. I have 2 Samsung HD boxes on 2 different TV's.

I know I was saying how I know that the boxes respond to the diag process even when off because I have 2 stacked in the Living Room.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
The start over is a new feature that TWC is deploying. It allows you to start over a program during the shows length. However you can't Fast forward but you can rewind the show. The FF limitation is by the content providers. Not all shows have it and more channels are being added to it.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
The reason why you're getting those please wait message is because you box needs to fetch data but your OOB tuner is busy. So it uses your IB tuner, which caused your please wait.

Would be nice to have DSG as the OOB carrier on the Samsung and HDC boxes.

Re: Please Wait (on screen)
The 3260 has a bunch of please wait issues but that will be fixed in a new firmware update. The Guide will stay the same but it will be a patch that can be loaded at 5AM. Corporate is testing it and then should be ready for TWC San Diego and Columbus to deploy. Maybe they test it then it gets sent out.
