[IA] Mediacom Internet drops and drags. HELP PLEASE!!!

This problem becomes worse and worse, and getting through to Mediacom CS is impossible.

We are at our wits end, and really hope somebody out there can help us out.

Our Mediacom cable internet becomes painfully slow several times during the day, especially in the mid-afternoon. It drops completely every day, and since we have Vonage, it's especially painful when calls drop EVERY day. It's amazing how the internet knows when we are at an important point in a telephone conversation when it chooses to drop.

We have a MacBook Pro using an Airport Extreme wireless, and a PC that is wired via ethernet into the cable modem (SMC8013WG). The problems happen regardless of the fact that one or both of the computers is being used at the same time.

We pay a lot of money to have the extra fast service that misleadingly says we can get up to 500 bajillion trillion zillion megazoops per millisecond. (or something like that).

If it matters to anybody, we live on the west side of Des Moines.

The other day, when I was on the phone with my elderly father who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, the internet dropped, and it was a long 5 minutes that went by before the signal came back up--my father thinking all the while I had hung up on him. Sadly it's the one thing he remembered that day.

Can somebody please give me some advice and/or help. Mediacom is useless when it comes to customer service, and I'm sure somebody out there can help.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having. Post the signal levels from your cable modem diagnostic page. What is the cabling configuration of your set up? How many splitters etc. Do you have Mediacom TV service and if so, are you having any problems with it? I ask because if you are having TV problems it is easier to get through to CS for TV problems and then you can also report your internet problems.

i've had similar problems for over 2 years now.. after calling CS, i'll get a tech to come out and check the power levels -- they're low of course -- and then they do something to fix it.. once they ran all new cables to the house, but last time he just replaced the connector on the pole as it was all corroded.. it gets fixed and everything will be good for an amount of time, usually 2-8 weeks and it'll start again.. not too bad at first, but getting progressively worse until i give up and call CS again.

as for getting through to CS being impossible, i've never had a problem.. call and wait on hold for 5-20 minutes, tell them my internet is having connection issues, and they schedule a tech to come out sometime in the next 7 days.

Get rid of that modem. They were junk when Mediacom picked them up years ago and I informed everyone I could get ahold up when I went thru the silly "Wireless Training".

FWIW the diagnostic pages on that should be at »192.168.0.1 or »192.168.1.1 and will require a username and password.

I cannot remember any more details than that.

If you send anybody your account number you need your head examined.

Only 27 Posts and asking for account numbers? Who the hell is this guy?

BAINCH NEVER asks for acct numbers, only MAC addresses, and he can find the appropriate info from there.

I'm a Mediacom CSR and here to help any customer needing assistance. If it makes it easier the MAC address is fine too.
