Changing MAC

When I login my router using 192.168.1.1 and click "MAC Address Clone", it gives me the opportunity to change my MAC to whatever I want. I put a random 11.22.33.44.55.66, and it worked. It changed my IP and I was still able to connect. I guess my questions is, does this matter? Or what does it change/do? Say I put someone elses MAC in there, would it give me the same IP as them? I'm confused.

Thanks

Re: Changing MAC

No, it will not, your DHCP request will be rejected.

Re: Changing MAC

Do you have a response to my other questions? I'm just curios what this does. Also to add to the questions, doesn't this confuse them at all seeing 2 people with the same MAC and different IP's?

I'd say you're not going to get any more answers here. Simply because what your asking can be used to spoof other peoples mac addresses for free inet or what have you. :)

Re: Changing MAC

cloning the router isnt the same as cloning the MAC on the modem. all you'll be doing is receiving another ip.

Does it matter... No
what does it change/do... Nothing, you won't receive an IP if you clone someone else's, I.E. they will keep surfing, you will not.

Bottom line here, if you are thinking about "gaming" the system, you might as well stop trying. These systems are designed by very intelligent people and changing your router's MAC address won't get you anywhere. Period.
