DynDns

using dynDns service, how exactly does port forwarding work?

this is what i am thinking:

the dynDns sends a request to my ip address associated with my www.name to my router. this is where i get confused. if i want to see my web server from the outside with the port of 8080. how does the router know that i am trying to look at port 8080? doesnt it automatically look at port 80? i do not understand how the www.name gets attached to the actual port.

Re: DynDns

The software trying to connect to "www.name" has to specify the port.

The port forwarding configures your router, as to which internal computer (internal to your LAN) should receive that connection attempt.
