Basic Cable w/ RoadRunner?

I was told by a co-worker that if I were to go back to Road Runner High Speed internet (Have Uverse now) and run a splitter before the modem I can run one of the cables to a cable ready TV and get all the basic channels.

Can anyone verify this?

Re: Basic Cable w/ RoadRunner?

If you only pay for internet they place a filter on the line to block the tv signal.

What's really funny I asked them what would it cost for just the analog channels 1-99...$50 a month

What is so funny about that ?

OP.. you can get what is sometimes called Lifeline cable.. this is the most very basic of all services offered by Time Warner cable and it costs about $10 or $11 a month. here in this area we get channels from about 2 thru 19. So this includes all the locals and some others. You also get the QAM signal so that on your QAM HDTV you will get HD programming when it is being shown on the local channels.

This is not something that Time Warner advertises, but call your local office and ask if the very basic cable TV is available in your area. And I am also not sure if you would then get Roadrunner pricing that you would get for having the channels 1 thru 99 service that Ronnie_USA has mentioned. You may need this service to get RR for the cable TV subscriber price.

The part that I did not understand was the part that you did not state in your first post Mark. You stated..

"What's really funny I asked them what would it cost for just the analog channels 1-99...$50 a month"

You only pay $39.95 a month to have a digital cable box and digital channels ? Is this the regular price or a deal for a year. In this town the regular price to have one digital box is about $65 a month or so. Analog access only is just a bit less than that.

does not block out Digital Clear QAM

other wise your modem would not work at all
some areas such as Los Angeles has Lots of channels in the Clear QAM :D 75% of them
including video on demand (You watch what others watch)

(Excluding movie PACKAGE CHANNELS etc..... they use encryption on them)

First off thanks for the responses. I am not sure if I quite understand yet though since things kinda went off on a tangent. So I guess I am still wondering; if I pay for RoadRunner will I be able to get ANY channels 1-26, 1-99 or any for that matter?

If TWC does their job right, then NO you should not get anything besides internet.

If TWC doesn't do their job right, for what ever reason, it's possible to get something but you'd have to check on that after installation.

With just Roadrunner, technically you will not be able to get channels because if Time Warner does it's job and installs it correctly, there will be a filter on your line coming into your home.

filter does not filter the unencrypted QAM channels

That totally depends on the frequency range of the filters installed.

In your area, with the filter they installed on your connection it didn't remove them, but that isn't true everywhere.

Oops...ok then, Unencrypted QAM will come in ? So maybe like at least the local channels. Cool.

Re: Basic Cable w/ RoadRunner?

any channel higher then NTSC-73 is *open season*

the only things that do not load is the guide data or time (my TV will show the Name of the show depending on the Digital channel)

AGAIN, that's true for YOUR area. It's not true and doesn't apply EVERYWHERE!

It'd be easy enough to install a filter to take out everything other than the modem downstream channel.
