I am sure it will work, because any DSL modem will work just fine. Just making sure it will...

Re: [Modem] Zoom 5510-00-00BG

Get your friend a Zoom 5510-00-00BG DSL Modem only if deep down you really hate him.

This modem does not support ADSL 2, Reach Extended ADSL2, or ADSL2+.

This modem is USB powered and only features USB 1.1 connectivity. This will make the modem unsuitable for use with FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 service. This modem will require a driver to be installed on the computer that it is attached to in order for it to function. Are there drivers for Windows 7, Linux, or the latest version of Apples OS?

This modem does not feature Ethernet connectivity and that fact is an absolute deal breaker in my book.

Do not buy your friend this DSL modem!

Your friend would be much better off with the FREE modem that you are trying to give him assuming that it is properly functioning and is a FastAccess DSL version modem supplied to you by AT&T Southeast/BellSouth.

It may work, but it may not work the way you or your friend expect it to work. Are you aware that modem is USB only, with no ethernet interface?

I have successfully used the Zoom 5615 with AT&T/BellSouth DSL. That is a simple ethernet bridge modem (no router). I assume you are looking for a simple bridge modem?

EDIT: Ooops, slow fingers, Airwolf7 beat me to it.

Maybe this is why it's "only" $25. LOL.

Re: [Modem] Zoom 5510-00-00BG

I bought a "new in box" NETOPIA 3342N-TST006 ADSL2+ FIELD TEST TOOL off eBay for $25.00 and thought it was a good buy.

It's the same Netopia pocket modem that the techs use and makes testing at the NID a snap being USB powered.

Danger Will Robinson! Danger!

Once upon a time there was this outfit called Bellsouth who, in their infinite wisdom, discontinued general deployment of ethernet modems in favor of the Alcatel "Stingray" USB modem as a cost saving measure.

Those customers who couldn't pry an ethernet modem out of them just left for other ISPs who knew better or found their own ethernet modems leading to Bellsouth's massive list of "unsupported hardware."

Those who stuck with the USB turd drove up the support costs far above anything saved with the cheaper modem.

When the latest and greatest version of Windows shipped and wouldn't work with the Stingray.......

Do yourself a favor and stay away from USB networking gear. It's crap compared to ethernet and you are asking for trouble with it.

and he expects DSG to answer his tech support questions because tier 1 or tier 2 couldn't tell sh**.

yet he creates his own problems right there...and it's not even his own...a problem for his friend he's trying to help...
