[Need Info] Tivo & New Digital signals
I'm currently a Directv customer in Bethlehem, but contemplating the switch to RCN since Versus is no longer available on DTV and I would like to watch at least a few Flyers games per year
Anyway, is anyone running standard definition Tivos with the new digital signal? I assume you need a converter box with each unit, is that correct? I was planning on picking up one HD unit and I already have a dual tuner standard definition unit. So I assume I would need to ask for a converter box and an M-card for them to work.
I'm already an RCN internet user, but I want to figure the costs with Tivos etc. to see if I come out about the same as with DTV.

You can use a standard definition TIVO with an RCN cable box but it will no longer be a "dual tuner" TIVO. The TIVO will get its signal from the RCA jacks running from the cable box. A coax input from RCN will only provide scrambled signals which are not usable.
You are correct, though, in what you need. You need a converter box and an M-card for them to work.
I myself have one SD TIVO and two HDs. I have a cable box for the SD and one M-card each for the HDs. The SD TIVO works just fine and the picture is good with the cable box.

Thanks for the response. Since you have two HDs can you MRV between them or does RCN impose CCI flags that prevent transferring and copying?

I can MRV between all 3 of my TIVOs in any combination (Series 2 to HD, HD to Series 2, HD to HD). RCN does not impose any CCI flags that I have found.
I suspect that since RCN is teaming up with TIVO to offer an RCN branded TIVO box there will be a lot of cooperation between the two companies. So RCN is unlikely to do anything that will hinder other TIVO users. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Excellent! Being able to MRV is important for me, so I think I will switch to RCN. Thanks for the information.
