[CATV] Huge new post-crush charges
Much to my dismay, the promises by the Crush-coordinating CSR that "Your bill will increase only $6-something" was a lie. A lie to the tune of $22 more than the promised $6, including some prorating of STB rental.
So I compared before-after and found this:
Before
$10.00 Limited Cable
$21.25 New Digital Vision
$11.60 Expanded Cable
After
$10.00 Limited Cable
$21.25 New Digital Vision
$29.04 Signature Cable TV
So, I'm now trying to figure out what the heck is New Digital Vision and why is this Signature business, whatever THAT is, nearly $18 more than the old Expanded Cable.
As I understood it, there were no additional costs, beyond the converter rental, to be expected for digital channels to the other TVs in the house. Where did this charge come from, can anyone tell me? I tried calling Billing and all I got was "That's what it costs" (go away). They can't even explain their own products. Can anyone here explain it for me?
I'm getting only a handful of channels now that I didn't before, none of which I'm the least bit interested in. I don't have HD. I'm really confused.

If you go to RCN's website you can see an explanation of "Signature Digital Cable" (as opposed to the "Signature Cable TV" you wrote - is that what you really mean?). You can find it by going to www.rcn.com, clicking on the "Digital Cable TV" tab and then clicking on "Plans and Pricing."
That "New Digital Vision" nomenclature is from their old plans so I don't know what that is. It looks to me like it is a subset of Signature Digital Cable. If that were the case then you are paying twice for the same thing.
My suggestion is that you call RCN's retention department as they are the most knowledgeable and have the ability to adjust pricing. You can reach them by selecting the "cancellation" option on their phone menus.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to take it up with the retention people. I'm feeling *very* scammed here. I often think that RCN management spends hours sitting around in their conference rooms thinking up new and imaginative ways to piss off their customers.
"Signature Cable TV" is verbatim off the bill.

Re: [CATV] Huge new post-crush charges
After some protracted discussions with FIVE different RCN people spread out over a two week period, one of them *finally* admitted that the bill wasn't priced correctly and that this "Signature" thing should have been $18 less.
I've never dealt with a company that's as difficult to get through to as RCN. Their products are so complicated that even their own CS reps don't understand them, as I've just proven. The first four couldn't even explain the difference between the "Expanded Cable" and "Signature". Nor is the web site any help. They use all kinds of different names for the same products. They don't have explanations for every product that appears on the bill.
Very frustrating, as usual.
The only redeeming feature is that the tech side of the house is a whole lot better at making things work. I have no gripe at all with the performance of the service they deliver.
Anyway, advice to the wise -- don't assume that your bill is right. Even they can't explain what's on them.
