[Internet] Bell Email Password Problems
Although I had frequent password problems a couple of years ago with my Macs email program connecting with Sympatico, things eventually sorted themselves out with absolutely no input from my end. As can be said 99% of the time, the problem is at Bells end.
So all of a sudden this week all four of my Bell email accounts started to consistently ask for my password. I've even gone as far as to check for email manually. Still have the password prompts.
Just in case some get to thinking that this problem is at my end, today I noticed on a Mac forum that others are having the same problem AND, it also became irritatingly frequent for them at the first of the week.

Re: [Internet] Bell Email Password Problems
There have been problems with the Bell e-mail authentication servers all week. Allegedly clear now.

Re: [Internet] Bell Email Password Problems
Acting up again today. Right now 2 of my 4 Bell accounts are offline. Any one or more of the 4 entirely on their own have been going off and online all morning.
It was either last night or the night before, just after 22:00, all 4 accounts went offline at once. And then, without any input from me, as if by magic, all four accounts came back online just seconds before 22:30. And as usual, there's nothing about it on the Service Status page.
This is getting ridiculous.
Just as I was about to post this, I once again typed in the password. Now all accounts are online for now.
I never had this amount off problems when it was Bell Sympatico.

Re: [Internet] Bell Email Password Problems
It is annoying and it happens to anyone using an email client program. I can not find the relevant post, however another Bell user which happened to use the mail client "Outlook" (forget the version, though it is irrelevant) which also had been effected by this issue decide to probe deeper. As it turns out the issue was that when the mail client program polls the server (which is not really a mail server anymore, Bell has converted them into Proxy servers for Hotmail) the server rejects the connection after the user ID is sent. In the case of Outlook, the programmers apparently never anticipated this type of error so the program would generate a popup box asking the user to check the login/password.
The issue was and still is with Bell's (proxied) mail servers. I get the same issue as you every now and then, though in the past few weeks the number of incidents has increased.
If it follows the pattern set in the past, the problem will get worse for a few weeks, then terrible to the point you will not leave the client program running before the issue silently retreats for a few months.
If your email client allows it, don't change the password, just hit ok to clear the box.

Re: [Internet] Bell Email Password Problems
The solution is simple.
Stop using Bell Sympatico e-mail accounts.

Stop using Bell Sympatico e-mail accounts.
Plus doing so simplifies things if you decided to switch to another ISP.

Re: [Internet] Bell Email Password Problems
That's exactly why I stopped using ISP-based e-mail accounts. I was one of the first people to sign up for Rogers WAVE. They then screwed us over by switching to @Home, which made our e-mail addresses change. Then, a few years after that, they forced us to go to @rogers.com.
I learned my lesson the hard way. I bought my own domain name, signed up for Google Apps, and couldn't be happier.
