[ Mobile] System access fees removed at Telus
"....
Telus Mobility has announced that, effective November 5th, it will launch new rate plans with no System Access Fees (SAF) or carrier 911 fees. Existing customers will be given the option of renewing their existing rate plans or have the option to switch to the new rate plans at launch.
The move comes exactly one month after Rogers Wireless announced it would be replacing its SAF for all new customers with a government regulatory fee.
Telus says it will begin offering clear and simple pricing across both business and consumer wireless rate plans on the same day it launches its new HSPA+ wireless network.
Rather than substitute a new government regulatory fee for the SAF similar to what Rogers Wireless has done, Telus has chosen to simply increase its monthly plans by $5 and drop the $6.95 SAF and 38 to 53 cent 911 fee.

Will Bell mobility drop these fees which their supplier no longer charges.

Huh? What supplier?
Since both Rogers and Telus have dropped the SAF, the chances are Bell will drop it soon as well. However, when and what the related price increase will be (and whether there will be a GRRF like Rogers) is all guesses at this point.

This is why the SAF is such a nonsense ... your phone company owns the network!

Yep, unfortunately all they're doing at the moment is just integrating the SAF into the regular monthly fee.

Sounds like they're burying the "911" fee as well. Guess they didn't like all the recent negative publicity about them collecting it under the guise of it being used to enhance 911 coverage when in actuality it simply got rolled in as general revenue.

In *parts* of Alberta and BC, sure, just like Bell does for Telus in parts of Ontario and Quebec where it isn't cost effective to build their own. It's called rural coverage. :uhh:

In my mail today! Bell wireless (Alberta) has no intention of dropping the SAF or the 911 fee. The email stated that Bell is launching the Iphone on 'their' network (HSPA). The HSPA network is owned by Telus in Alberta and there is only one HSPA network here. Rodgers has a GSM network here as well, but it really sucks in 'Rural' areas. Oh by the way the 'Rural' areas supply you with the gas and oil that you enjoy in Eastern Canada and they support this ridiculous health-care system.
