TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
I don't think I can wait any longer. There's no legitimate excuse for only 7 HD channels - TWC should be ashamed!
I've waited a long time to upgrade my two 12 year old crt tv's because TWC does not/will not provide HD channels. I have waited this long because I really like their internet service and they've always been good with service calls/problems in our area and cable is just plain easier (plus, their office is two miles down the road). I just keep saying..."they'll have HD soon, they'll have HD soon", but it never happens.
I really, really, don't want to go to satellite (bad service, equipment and installation expenses, charges for service calls, little or no customer support, etc...), but I don't think I can wait any longer. TWC is forcing their customers to switch to the competition and doesn't seem to care.
[end ranting]
I see other area's that enjoy 70, 80, or 100 HD channels. Is my area the only one without HD??

no your area is not the only one without hd there is a system in my division that has only 17 HD while my system has 52HD
oh and the system that has only 18(1 that cannot be confirmed added) HD doesn't have ESPN2 HD or MAV TV HD. nine of their HD are locals.

What does "motorola system waiting for sdv" mean?

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
it means your system is motorola as they use motorola boxes, and they were supposed to deploy SDV which is a technology in which certain channels are only available when watched.
my system which is also a motorola system that is 870MHz will soon deploy sdv.
I believe ashland is 870MHz also. If so they should of added tons of hd by now without SDV.

Well I thought Aroostook had switched to SDV this last week but I guess not they added 15 new HD channels bringing our total to 41. NO SDV yet........

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
They seriously need to add more HD to that area. Maybe contacting the division president would be ideal. Sometimes there are legacy Adelphia areas that were generally neglected and they aren't as good as the TWC proper areas.

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
Well, I think I've waited as many years as i can wait (most people I know switched long ago).
I continue to pay prices as high, if not higher, as those TWC customers who access plenty of HD channels while TWC continues to count my money for services I'm not receiving. I can't sit and wait anymore on the promised "soon" timetable we've been hearing from TWC for the last several years. I'm tired of being penalized because people don't know how to run their business.
As bad as I hate to do it, I think I'm gonna have to make the dreaded call to D* :(
Not sure if I'll be able to keep my internet through TWC without subscribing to TV service or not, but I guess if I have to I'll switch that service too.
It really is a shame.

You can keep your TWC internet and have satellite TV. Even phone service can be kept if possible. Some parts of Cinci have FiOptics.

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
If I counted correctly, and if you include the premium movie channels, we now have 35 HD channels in Ashland. They added several channels a few months ago.
It doesn't match what is available on satellite but it is a big improvement over what it used to be.
Some, but not all, of the channels are listed at this link: »www.timewarnercable.com/customer···clu.ashx
Right now, I am hoping they will find a way to add Fox Sports South so we won't miss any of the early season University of Kentucky basketball games. We have already missed several football games that were carried only on Fox Sports South.

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
Yes, that is where I've been looking too. I count 18 total there. 9 of those 18 are premium channels (which cost extra and I have never subscribed to) along with one garbage channel (ONTV4U - The Spot For As Seen On TV Infomercial Products). That leaves 8 HD channels, of which 3 are local, 2 are ESPN, 1 TNT, 1 TBS, and HD Theater.
I do not know about the channels they do not list. When I called TWC a few days ago I was told our area had 10 non-premium HD channels and that there are currently no new HD channels scheduled for our area but they are sure we will get more "soon".

In addition to the channels listed on the website, we also have WOWK HD, A&E HD, Bravo HD, FX HD, Discovery HD, NatGeo HD, History HD, Family HD, Disney HD, USA HD, SyFy HD, Golf HD, Speed HD, Outdoor HD, ESPN News HD, CNN HD, Fox News HD, and CNBC HD.
I believe that KET HD is available in the Channel 300 range. (If I recall correctly, KET only broadcasts in HD during prime time).
When the new channels were launched they also listed Home and Garden TV but it has not become available.

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
I just noticed this announcement on the "Channel Information" page for the Ashland area:
"Ashland and Ironton: The following service additions are planned and will not be accessible on CableCARD-equipped Unidirectional Digital Cable products purchased at retail without additional, two-way capable equipment: NBA TV HD and Hallmark Movie Channel HD. Also, the following changes are planned: On our Legacy line-ups, Sundance Channel will move from Digital Basic Plus package to Digital Basic; NBA TV will be added to our Digital Basic package."

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
Thanks for the info Bookworm... much appreciated. I may be able to stay with TWC for a while longer after all. Its not a great HD lineup but may be enough to hold me over for a little while. Maybe by then we'll catch up with the other areas (doubtful, but I can dream can't I?)
Strange that they do not list the actual HD channels available - even the local sales people do not seem to be up to date on our available channels. Makes me wonder how many people have left for D* because of the really shitty HD lineup listed by TWC for this area.
Can you... or anyone, explain what this means?

Also mentioned, a change to "legacy line-ups". Are we legacy?
Again, thanks for the good info.

Re: TWC... Where's my HD?!!... Ashland, Ky
"Legacy lineup" is referring to one of two things.
The "legacy lineup" may be referring to the original arrangement of channels that has been in place for years and includes digital channels in the locations they occupied when they first started digital service. You can see programming for this channel arrangement on the TV Guide website.
They also have a newer arrangement of channels that includes a few more digital channels. It is the lineup you see on Time Warner web page. You can see the program listings for this channel arrangement on the AOL TV listings page.
The first 74 channels are the same on both lineups. With a few exceptions, they are the original channels that were offered before they started digital service a few years ago. I am not certain, but it may be they are referring to just these 74 channels as the legacy line up. (A few of the original channels have been moved to one of the higher numbered digital packages).
You can switch between the two channel arrangements by calling Time Warner. I did that when my TIVO started downloading its channel information based on the newer lineup. There was no charge to make the change.
It is all in what you get used to as far as channel arrangement goes.
