[Equipment] No Light On Digital Converter Box - NYC
I was away from home for a couple of days so I decided to unplug my TV and converter box. When I came home, I plugged in converter box but get no 'On' light. The remote seems to work fine. I pressed "Power' and 'CBL' buttons on remote but can't get the converter box to turn on. The connections to the converter box seem to be fine. I have a tech coming tomorrow, 11/2, but wanted to try to fix this before then. I am in NYC market.
Thank you.

to get better help, which box do you have? But it honestly sounds like a dead box.

Shadyman777, thanks for responding! The model number is Motorola DCT700/US. I guess I'll have to wait for the tech.

If i'm not mistaken, you have a tiny black box with no buttons. Try these next two steps in order....
Try doing this.... taking your remote and holding down the power button for about five seconds on your remote. That should reboot your box like new.
Another thing that might of happened, and it does happen, is your remote might of lose it's codes. Press and hold the menu and mute keys until your remote "cascades" on the top. The code will be either 001 or 002. After you do that, your box should turn on. IF it does, press exit and enjoy. If not, try the alternate code.
If neither code works, and holding the power button doesn't work. Dead box.

Unfortunately, neither approach worked.
Shadyman777, thank you for all your help.

Re: [Equipment] No Light On Digital Converter Box - NYC
When I had TWC, I used to unplug my seldom-used second box for long periods of time (why pay for the electricity?). And every time I turned it back on, I would have a "your service has been disconnected" message. I would have to call in and have them send a special signal to it. The tech support people explained to me that they need to periodically communicate with the box for whatever reason, and if it happens to be unplugged at that time, it will deactivate the box.
I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening here, because I don't know how these boxes work... but I do know that when I was having trouble with mine last month and they had to reset them, the power button didn't do anything until they sent a signal from the office. So perhaps it's related to the situation I had at TWC, but these boxes just express it differently?

They have to periodically auth the box to make sure you're getting paid for channels. RCN does it as well.

Sorry, don't quite know what this means.

I think Maggs is referring to my post, i.e. a possible reason your box might have been deactivated... if RCN couldn't communicate with your box, because it was unplugged when they tried. It was just a thought.

It turned out I needed a new adapter, not a new box.
Overall, my experience with RCN TV, Phone, Modem has been very good.
