im flipping thru channels in the 700 range and lower ranges an its staying at 1080i, i know for a fact ESPN use to always be 720p and obviously anything in the lower channels were 480.

and none of the channels in the lower range look better than they did, and my settings are still on Pass-Thru and the 4:3 aspect ratio channels are still in 4:3 so its either a bug in the box or cablevision's latest update is purposely manipulating the cable box's display to make people think that they're seeing something that they're not....

it never showed me a setup menu, i just activated it an that was it.

actually i might leave it how it is, cause i realise it doesnt take as long to change channels, an im still getting the same quality.

i forgot these are my 2 newer boxes that i got a few weeks ago. an my original box i had run that setup where you select all the resloutions an it would take about 1-2 seconds when switching from 1080 to 720 an 480

That's right.
You can look on the help section of the CV web site. That will give you the sequence to get the box into setup mode. You need to go into the advanced mode, select your screen's aspect ratio and resolution modes.
Many people just go for the quick setup (1080i and 16:9) just to simplify things.

Hit settings twice on your remote and scroll to Set Picture Format and then pic Auto DVI/HDMI if you're using an HDMI cable from the Cable Box to ur TV.

If you're not using the HDMI cable then make sure it's set to pass through ... if it already is ... pick another setting for instance one of the up converts save the changes and then go back and put it back to pass through... should fix the issue.

As far as I know the Setup Wizard doesn't make any changes when using HDMI ... if you're using the component cables and you want to access the wizard ... power off the Cable Box and press the guide and info buttons on the cable box (not on the remote) at the same time and the wizard will start

The reason he is only getting 1080i on every channel with pass-through enabled is because he only has 1080i enabled in the HD wizard. Need to run the setup and select the other resolutions if you want them.

If you're using HDMI, might as well keep it at one resolution. Switching between 720 and 1080 is a PITA b/c of the delay.

And he will have to run the wizard every now and then when CV pushes upgrades to the box. IT doesn't get reset with every upgrade but every now and then an upgrade will reset it.
